Mu.nu Names
There's so many: Munuvians, Munuvianans, Munu-kins, Munchkins, etc...
Those are just the ones I can recall seeing off the top of my head.
Any others?

Ummm...some more MT help please
One more thing and I promise not to ask again for any more MT help.*
I'm trying to tweak my comments so if there are no comments it says something like "Please say something", and once someone has commented it changes to "Join the conversation" or some such.
I've found this MTEntryIfComments thingy but I have no idea how to implement this on my template. I experimented with it (I didn't inhale) but it didn't work at all. Any ideas?
Also I'm not quite sure what's going on over at Writer's Noose with Burger Queen but it's either brilliant or scary. Maybe both.

I'm guessing brilliant. Though, even if brilliant it's still knda scary. Is Chuck our resident Andy Kaufman? Hmmm..

I emailed that Allan (who asked Chuck to email him about prosecuting BQ) to let him know he was taking the whole thing WAY too seriously and the email addy was a fake, which makes me wonder if Allan is just another character in this interesting drama...

Norbizness has that working on his blog. I'll ask him about it. I wondered, but never went to the trouble of actually finding out.
Also, Wizbang Tech has lots of neat little tricks and tweaks, as well as links to other guru's online.
Both of these are on my blogroll.

On Discourse.net, Froomkin has it where it is a different word for each number of posts 1-10. It's pretty neat. I'm pretty sure he uses MT, but he might have some special plugin or something.

Ok, I asked Norbizness about his rotating comment line, and he said it's a feature of Haloscan that you can set. I think Haloscan is a kind of blogging software like Moveable Type.

MTEntryIfComments requires a plugin in which we don't currently have plugged in.
Which is why it doesn't work.

More on blogrolls
Thanks to illustrious leader Pixy the new MuNu blogroll works a treat. I wonder if I can ask to take it one step further. One thing Blogrolling does that I find very handy is to append when a blog has been updated. Any chance one of the smarter amongst us can integrate that code too so if a munu blog has been updated (say) in the last 3 hours we have the option of saying "Updated" or "New" next to the link?
It means we don't need to click through the whole roll to see what's new if there haven't been updates. Especially if we're in a different time zone to most of you.
While I'm at it how do you do the collapsable list thingy like Jim at Snooze Button Dreams? That's pretty cool but I cannot decypher the code from View/Source to work out how to do it.
Viva MuNu!
By the way: one other afterthought - how do I get the MuNu blogs to open in a new window when they are clicked on from my blog? Do I have to alter the code in my template somehow?

Ummm, so I sort of solved one of these problems already...that being the "By the way" bit. I found the answer here: http://www.movabletype.org/support/index.php?act=ST&f=14&t=17173
but the really short answer was to add some code at the end of the HEAD section of the template:
Then all links on the blog (in posts and in the blogrolls) always open in a new window. So now you can clutter your desktop even more!
Posted by: Simon at October 29, 2003 12:30 PM (GWTmv)
2
For the collapsable lists you need 3 things.
Script file
Script reference in the header of the page (main index)
Bulleted list with the correct script call.
I'll stick the details in a text file and send it to you. It'll be later in the day though - frikkin busy at work this AM.

Simon, exactly what is it that you did? I would like to add that feature to my blogroll, too. Thanks. Can anyone tell me why the "Remember personal info" won't remember me?
Posted by: The Bartender at October 29, 2003 11:57 PM (vqc2L)
5
Ooops, what I meant to say was I added:
to my template just before the part to get it to default to opening a new window each time.
Posted by: Simon at October 30, 2003 01:45 AM (UKqGy)
6
Dang, it happened again. It didn't display the code in my comment. I'll try this:
base target="_blank"
but you need to include it in the triangle brackets before the bit that says /head
My comments also seem to never remember personal info. No idea on that one.

Hey - I found some scripts similar to what
Jim does. The difference is that these are a small Pop-Up window similar to a drop down menu. it looks pretty easy but I haven't tried it yet - been working on trying to make my page look scary for tomorrow, but not enough progress yet.
Here is the address for the menu thingy:

Jimbo: My e-mail is acting really funking right now. I downloaded and installed the scripts per instruction. Copy / Paste your code into my sidebar. Funny thing... the menus will collapse but not expand. check out at the bottom of my links and you can see. I'll give it another round tomorrow when I'm a little more clear headed. Thanks for the help so far!

Hey Jim - thanks for all the help. The one time the collapsable list thing doesn't work is when I'm calling a script ala Blogroll or the Alliance roll from TTLB. Is this taking it all one step too far?

Yes, using a collapsing text script like the one I use for links in my sidebar. Some problems are that you'll need to put the script reference in all of your templates (anywhere you want the collapsing text to work), I only know how to do it with lists so the collapsed stuff would be in a bulleted or numbered list, and it doesn't work for Mozilla browsers.
Interested?

There was more than one of us. But, yes, we will be 'going all imperial' in order to push Munuvia to begin its total domination of the blogosphere. We think that it would be best to develop a policy of pre-emption against other inferior blog alliances. Like ones that claim to be an Alliance of Free blogs.

Random Madfish TV
I ran across a really cool web site the other day. It generates random stories using Star Trek characters, locales, themes, etc. Since my site is about entertainment and not opinion, I thought I'd replace the Star Trek characters and themes with Bloggers and blognames to see how funny it would be. Then you just project your mental (or otherwise) image of the blogger into the scene. I've done two posts using this format and
I think it's really funny. I'm calling this new series
Random Madfish TV
Anyway, I thought I'd use the Munuvian members as replacements in the future. Lots of linky luv everyday, plus you have to come by to see what ridiculous situation you get into.
If you have a favorite Star Trek character, or two, you would like to be, let me know. The characters go across the entire spectrum of all the differenet series, good guys, bad guys, everything... so let me know - first come, first served!
PS: I think I've just ruined Star Trek for a whole generation of viewers. Mwahahaha!

Ooh, Ooh! I want to be Data (is this Next Gen or Original or all of them?)! Or somebody just totally cool. I mean out of this world awesome. Like Scotty

As far as I can tell, all the characters from all the series are inlcuded in the random story generation. So you can pick more than one, and pick some bad guys too.
I've got you down for Data, but I kind of had Rocket Jones penciled in for Scotty (I'm clever like that), Pixy Misa for Captain Picard, and as I go along I'll just assign different bloggers to different characters. Then I can post a bug list for everyone to see.
Should I just have one blogger assigned to one character? Maybe that would be easier to follow? You guys tell me.

Rachel, you're thinking Star Wars, not Star Trek. Star Trek is Capt Kirk, Spock, Picard, No.1, Data, Scotty, Troy, .... all those guys.

Susie = Deanna Troi
Do you think I should leave the bad guys as they are? I think that would make the stories more interesting to the Munuvians and the readers. Going up against a real alien and kicking ass! What do you think?
Posted by: The Bartender at October 29, 2003 06:05 AM (CRpLI)
10
I could go for Data or Riker, myself.
Posted by: Jim at October 29, 2003 12:30 PM (IOwam)
11
I wanted to be Scotty, but I gotta admit: Ted would make a great Scotty...certainly better than I would be.
You definitely must define: Real Star Trek or undigestible Next Gen (and beyond)?
Either way, I want to be Ensign Deadmeat--that guy who shows up in an episode only to be killed in a brutal manner, like being made into a big twelve-sided die which gets crumbled between the fingers of somebody so I can't be reconstituted. You know the episode.
Makes it easy to give your stories a punchline: Oh, my God! They killed Victor! (or Deadmeat, or whatever).
Oh, and Deanna Troi *must* be renamed Counselor Cleavage (but you can pronounce it cle-VAUJ to make it sound cool, if you want to).

You can call the bad guys the Moore-ons, and their leader is My-kel. Babs Moore-on is his wife, and their distinguishing marks are fat asses, facial fur, and noses the size of the Bronx, as well as a complete lack of regard for the truth and common sense.
Dang, Willie, this is a good idea! Almost makes me regret that comment I left in your blog!
Posted by: Victor at October 29, 2003 01:07 PM (L3qPK)

That's great, Victor...except for our own beloved Moore.

Daniel, how's your singing voice? Riley was an Irish tenor, sorta.
I think Tom would make a fine Sulu. He's got that certain elan needed.
Other than plumbing, Mookie reminds me of Chekov. Young, impetuous, smart, courageous, proud... She needs to work on her accent though.
Posted by: Ted at October 29, 2003 02:01 PM (bov8n)
15
I always thought My-Kel and Dan-Yel were twins seperated at birth.
(Daniel's gonna hate me for this.)
The only thing that can defeat the Moore-ons is soap.

16
Hey! Are you that jealous, Victor?
I still love you, ya know.
Posted by: Jennifer at October 29, 2003 02:44 PM (zp3wt)
17
NO. I am NOT that jealous.
Actually, mebbe My-Kel is a renegade Moore-on. Yeah, that could work...and Daniel, as Data, is trying to kill him to bring honor back to the family of robots or androids or manimals or whatever the hell he was...lemurs...something like that.
Posted by: Victor at October 29, 2003 03:36 PM (L3qPK)

:-) Okay, as long as you're not saying Daniel is in the same cess-pool as Michael, Mykel, whatever.
Did I tell you I got a comment from Jade Gold the other day? Deleted, banned, never heard from again (knock on wood).
Posted by: Jennifer at October 29, 2003 05:09 PM (kTtCJ)

"Separated at birth". Thanks for defending me Jen. I could never be spawned from the same "cess-pool" as My-Kel. His family of Moore-ons fell out of favor with the entirety of Moore-ons eons ago. He is the result of generations of toxic mutations contaminating his genetic pool. We try to save them with varying degrees of success (see Roj-Err the Moore-on) and sometimes one becomes a gnat just annoying the greater society of Moore-onia.

I'm trying to add the tag to display the category of the entry in the posted by line at the bottom of each entry. I've looked through the help files and tried a couple of things that obviously didn't work. Tried to do a search in the sidebar but got blank page. Can someone help me out with the code, I know where to place it in the master index and I have the categories archiving enabled.
Thanks for any assistance you can give me!

Just so you know, this week is poo week for me at work. If you don't hear from me by the weekend, send the dogs out.
Those of you waiting to load your archives... I'll see if I can grab a free minute.

Madfish Willie's
Hey I'm ready to make the move over here from Blog*Spot. I've got my templates to where they are acceptable and look like my old blog.
I have some minor questions:
How can I get a 3px border on the right of the calendar?
Do I have to do someting with my sitemeter to keep accurate counts?
Do I have to re-register with The Bear?
Where is the best info I can get regarding pictures?
How do I get the sidebar to remain the same width down the page, although I do not perceive a problem after I import my old posts?
Other than some minor template tweeks, I'm ready to import. I have my Blog*Spot template backed up and am ready to proceed.
I'll be checking my e-mail regularly today, if anyone is available to assist or AIM:mjt7665 as I am online today!
Thank you everyone for your assistance and making me feel at home!!
Cheers!

Okay, guys and guyettes, here's the trick:
To get a complete MuNu blogroll in chronological order (except that I stuck Munuviana at the top), use this code:
<script language="javascript" src="http://munuviana.mu.nu/mu.js"></script>
Or to get a blogroll in alphabetical order, use this:
<script language="javascript" src="http://munuviana.mu.nu/nu.js"></script>

I've got my links in collapsible lists. Click on a header to expand the list. Click again to compress it. Basically lets you keep as many links on your front page as you'd like without making a long-ass boring list of links that nobody is going to reference anyway cause it's so bloody long. Go check mine out and see what you think.

Yeah, the script is what collapses them so if there's any failure it'll just be out there as a bulleted list.
That's a shame with Mozilla. It's through an external script file. Wonder if that's the problem?
