Hmmm...

Okay, maybe 'hard drive' was the wrong phrase. To be specific, without naming things, it's the white box on the floor that the modem is in, the phone line goes into, that hooks to the computer and that ya stick discs in. I don't know what it's called. (I probably do and just don't know it.) I just know when it makes weird noises when it ain't supposed to.
I guess I oughta just be glad that the weird noises it makes don't smell. Of course, if they did, I'd know what to call it....Eric's butt.

That white box on the floor sounds like the computer to me.

Do you have a dedicated line for your modem? Do you have call waiting on the line you use? Call waiting is death to dial-up connections.

It sounds like you need to set up your PC to ignore incoming calls when you're using the internet. When I had dialup, I had to tack a code number at the start of the connection phone number to disable call-waiting. Kinda like 99-703-123-4567 - where the 99 at the beginning shut off call waiting. Look in the front of your phone book, it might tell you there what the code is, or call your phone company and ask.

How about an "ewww" alert?

Posted by: Pixy Misa at September 17, 2003 05:10 AM

It's called (last time I checked) "the tower."
Though, since alot of 'em are flat these days, perhaps the lingo has changed. (?)

As far as what that box is called...I dunno. It's been working okay til I tried to get on just now. First, 'can't find server'. Shut it down, start over, it found Yahoo, then I got one of the incoming mystery calls and had to shut down and start over again. Now, here I am!

As for the "eeewww" alert, I thought that was what the noise was for. (FFFFRRRRTTTT)
