Geek Help, por favor

Not only is Simon having cookie problems, so is J over at Quibbles and Bits.

So, Geeks and Geekettes of Munuvia--how does one ensure that comments remember the commentors?

I've got this particular problem as well.

It's not working for me (a commenter) on cr.mu.nu either :(

Works for me!

There's a bug in IE that makes it lose cookies for two-letter domain names. So try using cherrysramblings.mu.nu instead of cr.mu.nu.

Also, the comments-only page and the entry-with-comments page use two different cookies. One is shared across mu.nu; the other is local to the blog.

OK Pixy, that's great, but could I get it in English? What do I try as simonworld.mu.nu rather than sw.mu.nu??? What does the comments only and entry with comments page different cookies mean? Do I need to do something to my template?

All this talk of cookies is making me hungry.

Just go to simonworld.mu.nu rather than sw.mu.nu. You don't need to do anything.

Note that the "comments" links on your blog point to blog.mu.nu, while your permalinks point to your own blog. This is because we are using a single installation of MT (which is why Munuviana can show the recent posts for all the blogs) and I'm too lazy to set up symbolic links for the cgi directory for each munu blog. So the comments page, since it's always on blog.mu.nu, uses a common cookie for all munu blogs, but your individual entry pages use a cookie specific to your blog.

And if you use the two-letter shortcut, IE might eat your cookies.

Does that explain everything?

OK, I think I understand but now I'm more confused. If all of the comments are on the shared blog.mu.nu thingyjiggy, and they all share a central cookie jar, shouldn't any commenter on any one munu site be remembered on all munu blogs?

I tried going back to my blog at simonworld.mu.nu but it still seems to forget me when I do the comments.

Thanks for all the help.

What it means is that you've screwed everything up. Download Mozilla for your PC and take a look.

Madfish Willie's on the other hand is perfectly legible, it's just that the layout is messed up.

OK, so that's bad. To fix it I'd go back and change, umm, something. I assume it was working previously. Is it maybe to do with the mildly distracting scrolling text?

No - I think you messed up your style sheet.

The style sheet is very scary.

And very dangerous. Abandon all hope, ye who tinker with the style sheet.
