April 14* is the first anniversary of the MuNu blogging phenomenon, and we're having a party!
And any party needs guests. So: Bring 'em on! We all know good blogs languishing on Blogspot, or Livejournal, or Blog City, or that "Radio" thingy. We all know that they really want to be here on MuNu, but are too shy to ask.
So, nominate your favourites here. There's no shortage of space here on MuNu - another hundred blogs would be no problem at all.
What sort of blogger are we looking for?
We're looking for bloggers just like us, since the Munuvians are such a coherent group.Current Munuvians - and non-Munuvians too - nominate your favourites here!Uh...
To join the party, you must meet the following conditions:
Species: You need to be human, or be at least able to converse in English. (Dual-language blogs are welcome, but although I speak 25 computer languages, Ich spreche nur ein bisschen Deutsch and less French and Japanese, so a facility with English is pretty much essential. Rabbits, cats, dogs, fish and so on are welcome as long as they speak a language I understand.)
Sense of Humour: Required. That doesn't mean you have to write a funny blog, just that you know the difference between taking matters seriously and taking yourself seriously.
Politics: Optional. As long as you can distinguish between fact and opinion and paranoid raving, we really don't care where - if anywhere - you lie in Zebriski's Seven-Dimension Polispace™
Technical Skills: Welcome - but not necessary. Every Munuvian is a geek-in-training, and we always welcome more geeks or geeks-to-be.
Subject Matter: Yes.
What you get as a Munuvian:
But wait, there's more! During the month of April, we will be giving out prizes:A Movable Type blog, installed, tested and ready to go

So, we nominate them here and you do the e-mail and invite them?
Off Topic: This still will not remember my info? WTF?
Posted by Madfish Willie at March 27, 2004 05:27 AMYep. Or if it's someone you know better than me, I might suggest that you send an invite.
Off Topic: That's weird. Um. Once you're in the comments, make sure cookies are allowed there too, because it's a different url (blog.mu.nu instead of munuviana.mu.nu). Maybe that's the problem.
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 27, 2004 05:32 AMHow about Harvey at Bad Money?
Mike the Marine?
Lord Spatula, King & Tyrant?
Posted by Madfish Willie at March 27, 2004 05:42 AMOK I set the cookie manager to accept cookies from blog.mu.nu
Let's see if that did the trick.
Posted by Madfish Willie at March 27, 2004 05:45 AMI think we asked Mike once before. I don't remember the outcome (except that he's not on MuNu...)
Harvey's a good idea, though I think he likes it where he is. But if Susie or Jen did the asking
Lord Spatula is good.
P.S. Darn cookies!!
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 27, 2004 05:54 AMMargi Lowry...please,please,please!!
She did ask, too...in LeeAnn's comments.
Her domain reg is due by April 8th, but she's got to/going to let it go because of a real life troll.
Pleeeeze don't let her be lost to the blog-world.
She's a really great lady and writer.
Oh...and April 14th is my Dad and Loretta Lynn's birthday!
(Does that make Munuviana an Aries too?)
(April 14th is also the day, in 1977, that the Garden State Race Track in New Jersey burnt to the ground, but we don't hafta talk about that...)
I am humbled by such caring people.
Thank you, Stevie. You're such a doll. As for becoming a Munuvanian -- all I have to do NOW is tell Pixy what my new "name" will be.
I love it here, already. You guys make me all misty n' stuff. *sniffle*
Thank you. *smooch*
Posted by margi at March 27, 2004 08:09 AMP.S. April 13 would have been the anniversary of margilowry.com
I choose to think that I have great timing.
Posted by margi at March 27, 2004 08:21 AMALRIGHT!!!!
Pixy, you is the excellentest!!!!
Welcome Margi!
Truth be told, I wound up in tears yesterday morning when I read you were gonna stop. I had just gotten done wondering in a post why it is we always seem to have to let 'assholes' have their way...(Tiger's troll, Rob's ex, the government...), then I read your post about stopping and was like, "Aw shiiit".
When I tried to explain it all to Eric, I lost it for a few. (I just get so damned tired of 'them' always getting their way...)
I am sooo far beyond glad that FOR ONCE an asshole ISN'T getting what they want (you stopping) that I can't even find words to cover it!!!
Pixy, you have just reconfirmed your 'Hero' status! (not that I needing reminding...I love ya to pieces already, but...You Rock!!!)
Off topic - you need to set the host variable in the comments to blog.mu.nu and away you go!
Posted by Robert at March 27, 2004 12:40 PMConservative Grad Student is another good one. Would you like to do the honours, Ambassador Susie?

Posted by Ted at March 27, 2004 03:35 PMCool, thanks Susie!
Ted - all good choices. I hadn't seen Sophont or Backstage before. If you know any of them well, you're welcome to invite them, otherwise I'll do it.
Bartender, do you want to invite Lord Spatula? We should probably get one of the ladies to ask Harvey if we want results.
I shouldn't get too far ahead of myself, since next week will be a busy one for me. But from Good Friday (April 9) through to April 18 I'm on holiday, so plenty of time to set new Munuvians up.
But one a day until then shouldn't be a problem. And at that rate, we'll have 400 Munuvians by our second birthday!
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 27, 2004 03:51 PMI'll work on Harvey...now where did I put my red teddy and black garter belt?
Posted by Susie at March 27, 2004 03:56 PMYay for margi! I was going to suggest her and got all caught up in stupid stuff like talking to freaks on public transport.
Susie- I borrowed 'em. They should be back from the decontam....er, cleaners by tomorrow. Did you know how difficult champagne and whipped cream are to get out? Geez.
In other news... YAY! for one year and I would like to say I am eternally hugely bigtime grateful to Pixy for inviting me over.
Thanks, LeeAnn! Btw, I promised Harv that you, Jennifer and I would do the Naked Munuvian Happy Dance of Welcome for him if he came over to the dark side...and yes, I DID explain that Victor is the lead dancer and that Ted does back up, so we'll see how that goes over....`
Posted by Susie at March 27, 2004 04:40 PMI second Tim from backstage! (See dad's comment).
And April 14th is my mom's b-day too.
Posted by Mookie at March 27, 2004 05:06 PMI would like to nominate A.E. Brain an excellent blog that should be rescued from Blogspot with great dispatch.
Posted by Stephen Macklin at March 27, 2004 05:15 PMI actually invited Alan last week, but didn't hear back from him. I don't like to nudge people, but I'd be delighted to have him here at MuNu.
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 27, 2004 05:18 PMI'll email Sophont, Backstage, Triticale, and the boys from Llamabutchers and Anticipatory Retaliation.
Posted by Ted at March 27, 2004 06:23 PMOh, by the way, Pixy you're the bestest. In a manly guy-slap-on-the-back kinda way.
*lowering voice* Yay!
Posted by Ted at March 27, 2004 06:24 PM*thinks real hard*.... arn't I the only one on Mu.nu under 18?
Posted by Mookie at March 27, 2004 06:42 PMIt remembered! It likes me! It really likes me!
I'll get with Lord Spatual this afternoon and give him the invite. I'll give him your e-mail so you guys can take it from there.
Thanks daddio!
Posted by Madfish Willie at March 27, 2004 08:28 PMD'oh! Margi's in da house!!!1!
Mr Pixy: Do you think I could install the expanding comment script here on the group blog? I (just a personal preference here) really hate to open another window to read the comments. Thanks!!
Posted by Madfish Willie at March 27, 2004 09:03 PMI'm honored, flattered, and not particularly Anti-Atkins. What do I do now, and where do I find an intro to working with MT?
Pixy will contact you and get your blog all set up and ready to go.
In the meantime, here are some links for the MT User Manual, the main MT site at Six Apart and the MT Support Forum. I don't know if any of this will make any sense to you yet, but they are good sources for any future questions you may have.
After Pixy gets you set up, I can help you with your stylesheet and templates and get your site design up and running. Drop me an e-mail when you are ready.
After you get set up, if you have any questions you can always post here and you'll get as much help as you can possibly stand.
Welcome to our world!
Cool and double cool. I'll get triticale and Backstage set up and email them.
MW, I'll install the comment thingy right now. Then I'll check out Key Issues and There's One, Only.
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 28, 2004 03:17 AMHey, I added the comments thingy and hardly broke anything! Yay for me!
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 28, 2004 03:50 AMYay!!! Thanx!
I dropped Maike the Marine a line. He said he is going to be busy for a while; he'll check back when he starts up regularly again.
Posted by Madfish Willie at March 28, 2004 04:01 AMI just realised - Tim from Backstage is our first name collision! He'll have to be called Tim2 or something...
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 28, 2004 05:07 AMPixy, may I check with Paul from Light and Dark and see if he'd be interested in moving? He's been having a little trouble with the service being down lately, plus he's a reaaly good guy, computer savvy, sweet AND he's the one who helps me with my templates and such.
He hasn't said much about changing from Typepad, but it'd be great to be able to extend the invitation....
Mookie - I'm just setting up Backstage Tim now. Could you send me his email address so I can send him the welcome pack?
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 28, 2004 11:13 AMOkay, three emails have gone out, and four new blogs are up. You know the drill.
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 28, 2004 11:57 AMOh, and before I forget, I'd like you all to welcome a friend of Cherry's, Murray, who will be blogging at Um's Musings.
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 28, 2004 12:51 PMBartender, I've checked out Key Issues and There's One, Only and both would make fine Munuvians. Would you like to... ? Or maybe Susie can talk to GEBIV, since she already sends him self-destructing mission orders...
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 28, 2004 01:20 PMI'll go ahead and mail them both... I run across GEBIV all the time over at Harvey's comments, but Susie is more than welcome to nedge him in the right direction.
Posted by Madfish Willie at March 28, 2004 02:06 PMWhile I'm updating my blogroll... is Collinization still active? And Cherry had dropped out?
Posted by Madfish Willie at March 28, 2004 03:16 PMCherry has retired from blogging, so I've taken her off the official blogroll.
Collins is just on an extended lunch break. A very extended lunch break, true, but he may return one day.
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 28, 2004 03:20 PMJim - Yeah! You want to do the honours?
The other good part of this is that I don't know half these blogs, so I've got some good reading in store.
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 28, 2004 04:59 PMI'm here, I'm in! This is pretty thrilling. I need to figure out how to post, and get my blogroll moved--maybe even arrange things graphically a bit. Pixy has been wonderful, wonderful!
Old URL above. New/nu:
http://littlemissattila.mu.nu
I guess the transition will take me several days--a week at the outside. I'll probably do my archives last, after I'm actively posting at the new site. Which I'll start doing as soon as possible.
Posted by Little Miss Attila at March 28, 2004 09:49 PMHonors are done, Pixy. Ryan's happy to join the Munuvian conspiracy. Set me up with permissions to start as I'll be doing his template and archive move.
Since I saved Ilyka earlier this makes me 2 for 2 on my blog rescues. I've got to go find some new people to harrass into becoming Munuvians. ;-)
Posted by Jim at March 28, 2004 10:44 PMOh, yeah: ramblingrhodes.blogspot.com
Ryan's already got a profile in Munuviana, too.
Cool. I'm off to work now, but I'll see if I can get him set up at lunchtime.
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 29, 2004 12:33 AMJust catching up on weekend reading and whoa....the offer of a lifetime!
Nominees (although I've not asked yet)
Educated beyond her intelligence
Andres Gentry - he's blocked from Typepad in China now
Country Store
I'm sure there are more. In the words of California's Governor...I'll be back.
Ryan is ready to go.
Simon - Country Store is a good one. Andres says on his blog that he doesn't want to move from Typepad. Educated Beyond Her Intelligence - yow, that's colourful!
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 29, 2004 03:07 AMI estimate that there are at least 10,000 good blogs, and at least half of those are on Blogspot or similar. Unfortunately, I don't think we can quite manage 5000 blogs here at Mu.Nu... But we'll do what we can.
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 29, 2004 03:21 AMI just checked with the company that hosts our server. They have some amazing deals on dual Opteron servers right now. Twice the speed, memory and disk of our current server, triple the bandwidth, and only costs 60% more. So if we do get 5000 blogs here at MuNu, we'll just deal with it.
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 29, 2004 03:33 AMDoes that mean I have to change my name to Susie? Or speak in a squeaky voice to show I am under 18?
You guys have the best contests. How come I didn't know about this before?
Posted by Ozguru at March 29, 2004 04:13 AMYou guys have the best contests. How come I didn't know about this before?
Err, dunno. You could always try for prettiest blog.
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 29, 2004 04:23 AMI can't find a contact for Country Store so I'm not sure how to get a message through to ask.
As for Andres I'll ask him if he's interested given the China blocking looks here for the long haul, and I'll ask Educated as we need colour.
I like the new show/hide comments.
Posted by Simon at March 29, 2004 05:54 AMFeel a bit awkward about suggesting someone seeing as I'm new myself, but how about Trudeaupia? He writes wonderful posts but is constantly blogspotted.
Posted by Debbye at March 29, 2004 07:19 AMJust because Jaeger quotes you all the time.
Sure, ask him to come over.
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 29, 2004 07:38 AMSpeaking of which, Lemurgirl seems to be having DNS problems. I'll see if I can work out what's wrong.
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 29, 2004 09:59 AMJust came back from Trudeaupia... he would be a nice addition to our group. Good one Debbye!
Posted by Madfish Willie at March 29, 2004 12:14 PMThanks for giving the Official Seal (er, Fish) of Approval!
I'll contact him.
Posted by Debbye at March 29, 2004 02:32 PMRob, I've set up lemurgirl.mu.nu and pointed it in the right direction. There's still something not quite right with subdomains, though.
Simon, Alex from Educated Beyond is set up.
Ting! Next!
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 29, 2004 04:02 PMYeah check out that Space Monkey . I'll bet he's interested.
Posted by SpaceMonkey at March 29, 2004 05:01 PMCheeky monkey.
I've emailed the Space Monkey, folks. If there's one thing we need here at MuNu, it's more monkeys.
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 29, 2004 05:15 PMHmmm, I done lost count on how many of the munuvians there are due to my sendin' them this way a long time ago. I might be a newcomer, but I have been a munuvian fan for a long long time.
Posted by notGeorge at March 29, 2004 05:57 PMGood point, nG. I may need to open up a new prize category.
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 29, 2004 06:03 PMWasn't there supposed to be a prize for best blog featuring graphic udder sucking? You know, the whole "happy cow" thing...
Posted by Jim at March 29, 2004 06:28 PMOk, three more for consideration, and may have already been nominated.
Publicola
http://publicola.blogspot.com/
Travelling Shoes
http://www.travellingshoes.blogspot.com/
Texas' Best Grok
http://texasbestgrok.blogspot.com/
Hi...just wanted to let ya know I'm waiting to hear back from Paul.
I left a message on his home phone this morning, so it shouldn't be too long...(I think he may be house/dog sitting at his friends house...). I told him to either let me know or just get hold of you, Pixy...in case he does.
Thanks again!
Pixy: do I need to tell Alex something now or have you contacted her?
Also I've got no idea how to contact Country Store but will keep trying.
You forgot to include a best expat in Hong Kong category in the prizes.
Posted by Simon at March 30, 2004 03:29 AMUmmmm....scrap that about Alex. I should really check the munu roll first.
But at least I've got that stupidest comment category sown up.
Posted by Simon at March 30, 2004 03:31 AMWhat about Skippy Stalin at Enjoy Every Sandwich (http://enjoyeverysandwich.blogspot.com/)??
I don't know him personally, but I "met" his blog through Primal Purge (as you should well know by now is my obsession).
I dropped a comment by his site and left one over at Anna's too. (Anna is the only one I know that has ongoing discussions in her comments -- well, besides Madfish's Free For All.)
Yeah, yeah. I know. I'm new. Sit down and shaddup. Heh.
::: flee :::
Posted by Emma at March 30, 2004 04:47 AMOooh. I may have scored the Coup of the Century. I'll wait until Pixy writes back.
::: clasps hands and mutters incoherently :::
Muhahahahahahahahaaaa!
Posted by Emma at March 30, 2004 05:11 AMI'm at work right now and probably shouldn't be bringing up random blogs on my screen.
What's the Big Coup?
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 30, 2004 05:47 AMAnna, the woman most likely to turn me into playing for the other team, has asked if she could join Munuvian World Domination.
I know I'm new and should shaddup n' stuff, but I'd love to have her.
Wait.
She's worried about her "foul mouth." And I told her you let Madfish in. . .
And me, too.
I know she's already got an established blog, but she totally rocks.
Could you? Would you?
I'll make drinks at the next meeting.
Posted by Emma at March 30, 2004 05:51 AMUm....
That would be Primal Purge.
What was that about stupidest comment, Simon? Heh.
Posted by Emma at March 30, 2004 05:52 AMI hadn't even considered asking Anna because she's already got a .com. But sure! We'd love to have her at MuNu!
Could I, would I, on a boat?
Could I, would I, with a stoat?
First things first: What's a stoat? LOL
I emailed Anna and asked her to contact you, Pixy.
And secondly I quote (regarding MuNu): "I’ve always loved the group feeling there."
It's "grope feeling," but Anna's used to that. Heh.
Finally: What's World Domination without scooping everyone up!? Think of it. It will be the Pixynet, not that dumb old Internet.
Personally, I like it.
Posted by Emma at March 30, 2004 06:03 AMFirst things first: What's a stoat?
Methinks it is very like a weasel.
stoat ( P ) Pronunciation Key (stt)
n. Chiefly British pl. stoat or stoats
The ermine, especially when in its brown color phase.
Finally: What's World Domination without scooping everyone up!? Think of it. It will be the Pixynet, not that dumb old Internet.
Right! If we're going to dominate the world, let's do it properly!
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 30, 2004 06:13 AMAnd though I can't wander around unknown blogs here at work, MamaMontezz and Publicola would definitely be welcome. Only problem with Publicola is they might raise the tone a bit.
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 30, 2004 06:20 AMWant me to invite publicola?
*Thinks* Pixynet... I like it! ... Pixy I dunno if i've said it before, but your my Favorite Riffic! (I'm gonna buy you a t-shirt one day)
"All Hail The PIXY RIFFIC!!" hehe
Posted by Mookie at March 30, 2004 11:27 AMHold on a sec. We got Emma and now we're getting Anna too? I have died and gone to Guy's Internet Fantasy Heaven ™.
Hey Pixy - how about DeAnna? After all, it's all about her.
Posted by Jim at March 30, 2004 01:01 PMMuNu, where all the hot chicks are!
And Mookie, who is perfectly nice and all that and who we all like to bits um Ted's not here right?
Jim - DeAnna looks good - ask her to come over. Oh, you did.
Mookie - sure, ask Publicola if they're interested. It's not a blog I really follow, but there are a couple of people who post there, right?
Ted - Travelling Shoes and TexasBestGrok look like they would fit right in.
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 30, 2004 02:04 PMMr Pixy: Is there a MuNu script that sorts by alphabetical order? If not, I'll continue to update my templates by hand, no big thang.
Posted by Madfish Willie at March 30, 2004 02:51 PMYep. http://munuviana.mu.nu/nu.js is alphabetical.
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 30, 2004 03:28 PMTrudeaupia is interested but a bit shy and worried about the fine print. Guess I should have left out the part about selling his soul and sacrificing his first born ...
Posted by Debbye at March 30, 2004 03:33 PMReading through this list of blogs here, I just have to say one thing. There are a TON of good blogs that I just didn't know about. I mean, outside of Munu. Of course, Munu blogs are a step above and beyond all the others... Welcome to all the newbies...
Posted by Daniel at March 30, 2004 04:13 PMI know! It's both frightening and heartening to realise just how many good bloggers there are.
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 30, 2004 04:26 PMTwo more for ya! Johnny Huh? needs a rescue from Blogger for his blog Intellectual Poison and for the Cheddar X. He's good people and the Cheddar X is the finest of the self interview memes out there. Hey, it's the cheesiest, y'know?
Posted by Jim at March 30, 2004 04:51 PMCheddar X? Uh-oh, cheese fight!
Sure, send them my way. But it will have to wait a couple of hours - I'm off to Sleepy Bobo's.
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 30, 2004 04:55 PMhttp://physicsgeek.blog-city.com/
If you approve, I shall harrass--I mean, invite him to join our merry band. He brews beer! We NEED him!!!
Posted by Susie at March 30, 2004 06:25 PMFunny, I was just about to suggest him. Go forth and har... Invite!
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 30, 2004 06:36 PMInvites have been sent to Travelling Shoes and Texas' Best Grok.
MuNu - Grokking twice as much as other organizations seeking world domination.
Posted by Ted at March 30, 2004 06:43 PMJohnny and his Cheese (which despite being a completely separate style of cheese from LeeAnn's cheese is still entirely and completely outclassed by her, make no bones about it bruthah, 'cause that's how freakin' awesome she is) have been invited.
Posted by Jim at March 30, 2004 07:41 PMThe offer is almost too good to pass up. I've been griping about the recent "upgrade" over at Blog *expletive deleted* City. Some of the addons were pretty nice. The downside is my blog isn't available about half the time. I've been backing up my old posts, but B-C exports them as XML. I'm actually a pretty good techie, but a migration would probably require some help. Fortunately, I can bribe people with free beer.
I saved Wizbang's post about moving from Blogspot to MT. Great information if I were actually on Blogspot. Whoops. Anyway, enough griping. Since our lovable Alliance hostess was kind enough to ask, I'm leaning towards a "yes". Any suggestions on how to get started?
One downside is going to be dropping like a stone in the Ecosystem. Hello, microbe status.
Posted by physics geek at March 30, 2004 10:28 PMHell, I'm not shy. I nominate my own blog, Chaotic Not Random.
Want to see what CNR is all about? See March 24 for the Chaotic Not Random Reader Bill of Rights.
Posted by Kilgore Trout at March 30, 2004 10:34 PMDamn... Susie beat me to the Geek. Well, as long as he's over here, that's all that matters.
Geek: You can register two sites with The Bear. You'll have to go to the setup page, change your primary URL to the MuNu address, and add your original URL as the secondary URL. Your sitememeter, just copy over and let it run on both blogs. So you should keep the same status and visitor counts.
Also, Pixy will do the set-up when he gets a chance and e-mail you the information you need to access. You'll have the default set of templates to start with that you can modify to your satisfaction. Go check out out some of the site at the bottom of the top list in the sidebar to see what they will look like. After you get access, you can change your password if you need to.
Read the Templates R Us post below to get some starter information.
IMNSHO, Chaotic Not Random would be a good one for us to have, for whatever that's worth.
Posted by Madfish Willie at March 30, 2004 10:58 PMAlso, as soon as you join MuNu, you get 40 incoming links from the other Munuvians, so your microbial problem will be short-lived at best.
Mmmm... Not sure about CNR and the Dianaverse. There's some fine writing on both, but... Hmm.
(I know that I forgot to put in a note about entirely arbitrary decisions based on my personal feelings at a time when I was short of sleep and probably feeling grouchy and there was just one post on an otherwise good blog that annoyed me leading me to be ambivalent towards said blog but there it is.)
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 31, 2004 01:18 AMHey, I lost a comment. Crappy.
Anyway, good news - DeAnna is a go. She has succumbed to carefully orchestrated Munu comment assault upon her blog. Our powers are frightening to behold. Woe to whoever stands agains Munuvian domination.
Um...I mean allaboutde.mu.nu is only awaiting a setup to become the next Munu blog.
Posted by Jim at March 31, 2004 03:10 AMExcept tbat tbere's already one in the queue ahead of her.
So we now have Anna, DeAnna, Annika and LeeAnn?
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 31, 2004 03:29 AM"So we now have Anna, DeAnna, Annika and LeeAnn?"
Don't forget Susie and Heather. Wow! The babe quotient at MuNu is pretty high.
Oh and thanks to all for the info above. I have just a couple more questions: should I download the latest version of MT; and does the capability exist to email posts to a MuNu blog? Just curious.
Posted by physics geek at March 31, 2004 12:29 PMYou don't need to download MT at all - it's all on the server. Pixy can set you up with Trickle, which allows time deferred posting, but there's no capability to email post in MT. We'll have to wait for Minx to get that sort of cool stuff.
Posted by Jim at March 31, 2004 02:40 PMMr Pixy:
GEBIV says he's ready to make a move.
george.boller@verizon.net
Thanks!
Posted by Madfish Willie at March 31, 2004 03:21 PMPhysics Geek - everything comes pre-set, though I haven't updated to the very latest version. And it's not just the babe quotient, but the names.
(After all, we have Helen and Stevie and Emma and Jen and Alex and Ilyka and Sarah and Debbye and Linda too.)
MW - Cool! But I won't have time to set up any more blogs for a couple of days. (Unless things go really well at work tomorrow - which might happen, you never know.)
I work in the billing department of a small phone company, and the first week of each month is always hectic, 'cause that's when the bills go out.
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 31, 2004 04:50 PMI ran across a good candidate at http://likethelanguage.blogspot.com and emailed her to come here and apply, but a nice comment assault might almost be in order, ya'll. Her name is Rae and the site is called A Likely Story
Posted by notGeorge at March 31, 2004 09:58 PMGood one, nG!
Off to work now, busy busy time...
Posted by Pixy Misa at March 31, 2004 10:11 PMMr Pixy: Mamamontezz said she'd "be really happy to joing our band of merry band of bloggers brave and true". She also says it's not big hurry as she's paid up in advance for a couple more months. I'll fill her in on the process and send you her e-mail.
Posted by Madfish Willie at April 1, 2004 03:56 AMYo-Ho, merry band, brave and true! Actually, I look forward to being out of there for "new posting" purposes ASAP, as with the "upgrades" they installed I am rendered impotent from the keys of my trusty antique laptop. I truly hate that.
Archives? they can wait. So I have a mirror at Blog-sh***y for a while. Cool with me. A place to run when I've completely snarfled the template here.
Looking forward to it. Happy to be here.
Posted by Mamamontezz at April 1, 2004 04:27 AMPixy:
Stevie mentioned to me it might be possible to join the Merry Munuvians. I fired you off an email a couple days ago, but only had the feedback address from your blog. Is there a better address to send it to?
I'm not in a massive hurry, and I know you're quite busy for the next week or so. Just wanted to request a room at the asylum if there's still space.
Paul
Light & Dark
Paul - yes, absolutely!
I'll send you my secret email address that doesn't get spammed to death as soon as I get home tonight.
Posted by Pixy Misa at April 1, 2004 07:26 AMI thought spam rolled off a Pixy's back like water off a duck? Or maybe a steel bearing off of a big round marble hemispherical lawn ornament. Yeah, that second one.
Posted by Jim at April 1, 2004 11:14 AMPixy... how about Key Issues I forgot all about her till I was reading through Primal Purge's comments.
Posted by Madfish Willie at April 1, 2004 06:23 PMPixy... check out A Likely Story! Nice blog and really pretty!
Posted by Madfish Willie at April 2, 2004 03:45 AMPixy... Harvey has ruined another fine commenter at Closet Extremist
Posted by Madfish Willie at April 2, 2004 04:08 AMTed has emailed A Likely Story... I think. I'm a bit confused at this point. Actually, I'm a lot confused at this point. Looong week.
And you didn't forget about Key Issues. Well, you might have, but you remembered first. And yes.
Posted by Pixy Misa at April 2, 2004 04:41 AMP.S. We don't accept bloggers just because they are pretty. Pretty and witty and bright, sure. But pretty alone ain't enough.
Posted by Pixy Misa at April 2, 2004 04:43 AMI've got another one: the massive whinger
What is it with me and brightly coloured blogs?
Madfish - if Pixy accepts she's gonna need some help.
Posted by Simon at April 2, 2004 05:18 AMSo, I must confess my nervousness as I am a bit of an accidental tourist in the blogosphere. That is, I barely speak the language, but know enough to get my backside where it needs to go; otherwise, a bit fearful of hopping into a taxi for a ride- you know, afraid of where I will end up and how would I get back if needed?
I am willing to try, though, just let me know what needs to be happenin'- I admit to being the dork in the back of the meeting asking all the annoying questions that everyone else already understands (and they secretly want to bound and gag so they can all get to the end of it already and get on to happy hour). So, just "baby-step" me?
Posted by Rae at April 2, 2004 06:16 AMYay!
Don't worry Rae. This is baby-step central right now.
Posted by Pixy Misa at April 2, 2004 06:29 AMSimon - I went to the massive whinger (or "whingher") and all I got was four crummy Blogspot ads. No content.
Yours confusedly,
Pixy
Posted by Pixy Misa at April 2, 2004 06:31 AMI just went to the winger (whinger? whingher? whinhgherh? what the hell is that anyway?) and got an exceptionally colorful blog (my eyes! damn my eyes!) with lots of humorous inanity.
Posted by Jim at April 2, 2004 11:00 AM"Blog-sh***y"
And I thought I was the only one that felt that way.
Posted by physics geek at April 2, 2004 01:34 PMPixy... and another 2Flower To You. She has probably the best looking blogspot site I've seen. Go check out her picture of John Kerry!
Posted by Madfish Willie at April 2, 2004 01:45 PMSimon - the whingher's blog is totally fraggled under Mozilla and even comes up with errors in IE (unless you have error messages turned off) but once I managed to read it I agree that it would make a fine addition to the great MuNu empire.
Posted by Pixy Misa at April 2, 2004 01:51 PMMW - Definitely yes for 2Flower. I've visited her site before, and she rocks.
Posted by Pixy Misa at April 2, 2004 01:53 PMOkay, here's a list of blogs I'll be setting up today. Hope I haven't forgotten anyone. This is only people who have confirmed that they want to make the Muve, so any fence-sitters will have to wait until tomorrow.
A Likely Story (Rae)
There's One, Only! (GEBIV)
Mamamontezz (Mamamontezz)
Light & Dark (Paul)
It's All About De (DeAnna)
TexasBestGrok (John)
Fear Your Future (new)
I think I may have forgotten someone. If I have, someone please remind me, okay? As they say, whatsit is the first thing to go.
Posted by Pixy Misa at April 2, 2004 02:17 PMDid he? I'm happy to get him set up too, I just couldn't find a definite confirmation.
Posted by Pixy Misa at April 2, 2004 03:16 PMblog city is eating his posts--I think he's ready, but I'll try and get him to say an unqualified "yes"...
Posted by Susie at April 2, 2004 03:31 PM*email enroute*
Add the guys from Anticipatory Retaliation.
Travelling Shoes is still considering the offer. Llama Butchers is going to get their own domain.
Haven't heard back from Sophont.
Maybe I ought to hop back into blogging. Since my prior home has been taken over and overrun, I am not sure I would want to live there now anyway.
Posted by Kang A. Roo at April 2, 2004 05:29 PMTed - cool, Anticipatory Retaliation is now on my list for today.
Kang - sure, no problem.
Posted by Pixy Misa at April 2, 2004 06:15 PMThanks mate, I would hoist a Foster's in your honor, but understand you don't like that brand. I am pretty sure it was meant more for marsupial consumption, anyway.
Posted by Kang A. Roo at April 2, 2004 07:56 PMI just finished with Educated Beyond Her Intelligence site styles transferred. I have some time this evening to assist anyone else who needs it. This week-end I need to finish a project in the MadLab for Sir John of Argghh!!!, but, after that, I'll be available again. First come, first served.
I'll need access to your site so I can edit/modift templates, rebuild site, upload files for images, configure weblog (if you want category archives).
You give me access via:
Main Menu > Add/Edit Weblog Authors
Select "Madfish Willie", Add an author, [Save].
Then:
Main Menu > Add/Edit Weblog Authors > Edit Permissions
Check mark all the thingys I need access to [Save]
Then:
Leave a comment here or drop me an e-mail and let me know what you want/need done.
Thanks for the invitation! Looking forward to the move!
I'm very, very, very late coming in, but what do you guys think of Loren, my guest blogger? Should he have a spot of his own?
I also really like Mamamontezz.
Posted by Linda at April 3, 2004 12:10 AMloren is an excellent writer! 1 vote for Loren.
Posted by Madfish Willie at April 3, 2004 12:34 AMAgreed. I'm more than happy to give Loren a blog of his own.
Posted by Pixy Misa at April 3, 2004 01:22 AMOkay, the blogs listed in my list are set up and the authors have been created. Now I just need to post the test posts and send out the emails.
After that I think a nap is in order.
Posted by Pixy Misa at April 3, 2004 05:44 AMI'm very, very, very late coming in
Actually, you're not late at all. It's just that everyone else jumped in even earlier.
I think I'll take a nap first, then send out the emails.
Oh, and whatever ails MT, it's not I/O-bound. It's still dog slow running off a RAM disk.
Posted by Pixy Misa at April 3, 2004 08:12 AMNot only has blog-c*ty been down half the time lately, but it has consistantly been down whenever I got a hot link from someone. I have another ten months of "premium" service paid for there, off which I am gleefully writing.
Anyone who figures out how to translate their XML backup for MT import please drop me a line. All I've learned so far is that "gutter" = "side" which has enabled me to move my Blah Grole over by brute force.
I worked on the problem last year after Jen joined us. I just need to find the code involved. First XML parser I ever wrote...
Posted by Pixy Misa at April 3, 2004 12:22 PMAll the welcome emails are sent, except for Mamamontezz whose address I don't got. I left a comment on her blog to get in touch.
YAY!
Posted by Pixy Misa at April 3, 2004 12:35 PMPixy Misa - weird, i had included scripts for turning off the blogspot ads.
Jim - what the hell is a whinger? it's a british slang for whining - if you understand irony that is. as for the "lots of humorous inanity", i take that as a compliment.
Posted by breanagh at April 3, 2004 02:16 PMYeah, the script worked in IE, but went kerflooie in Mozilla.
So, will you be joining us? The waiting list suddenly just got shorter.
Posted by Pixy Misa at April 3, 2004 02:24 PMi didn't receive any replies from either you or madfish Pixy Misa. so i'm welcomed to the fold then? i know this sounds daft (sorry, that means stupid to non-brits) i just go sign up or what? my apologies, it's late at night over here as we speak - 23:04 hours Sat 3 April - just got back off a rugby game, and alcohol-induced.. blah. many thanks.
Posted by breanagh at April 3, 2004 03:02 PMThat's funny, I could have sworn I sent you an email.
Yes, you're welcome! I'll get everything set up for you and email you the details.
Posted by Pixy Misa at April 3, 2004 03:14 PMPixy - that should be my office email address then. will only check it next week when i get back in to the office. thanks.
Posted by breanagh at April 3, 2004 03:29 PMIf I have any hair or fingernails left after this, I swear I am never moving again. I need help! Puuuuuuhhhhhhhhleeeeeeeeeze?
Posted by Rae at April 3, 2004 08:35 PMFar too many comments. Was going to say something here Forgot what it was after all that reading. Bet it was good though........... Something about nominating I think. Xlnt! KISS are good though Rock and Roll.
Posted by Markiss at April 3, 2004 11:47 PMI do believe eventually MuNu will own the blogsphere. Or Pixy will.
Either/or, it's a good thing.
Howdy all y'all!!
Still a bit gobsmacked by having actual capability to do stuff on a blog. But, to ensure that I don't get too overwhelmed, I'm off to grow fat and kill brain cells. Rather a task really, since the nervous system relies heavily on fats, I have to try to keep the rate at which I'm killing off brain cells matched with the rate at which I'm accumulating them in my butt.
Well, at any rate, cheers and thanks again for the warm welcome!!!
Posted by Bravo Romeo Delta at April 4, 2004 04:55 AMYay!
And I've even made smilies work in the main page now!
Posted by Pixy Misa at April 4, 2004 04:58 AMYes you did! And I wanna know how! (But I'm not impatient....it's not like you have 8 jillion things to do.)
Posted by Emma at April 4, 2004 10:43 AMAre you really looking for nominations? 'Cause I'd strongly recommend Isabel Lyman's blog The Homeschooling Revolution. Izzy, a professional writer, has a loyal following among the homeschool community.
Her email is homeschoolrev at aol dot com
Posted by Daryl Cobranchi at April 4, 2004 07:23 PMSaying "yes to the dark side". Don't blame, those are Susie's words.
Sorry I wasn't clear last time.
Physics Geek - Cool! I'll add you to the list.
Daryl - Yes, we really are looking for nominations, and Isabel looks good to me. I'll email her when I get home from work tonight.
Posted by Pixy Misa at April 5, 2004 02:29 AMPixy what about The Belmont Club I've only come to it recently but it's good solid political stuff. I've not emailed to ask yet as I thought you'd need to have a look at this one first. Let me know.
Posted by Simon at April 5, 2004 03:32 AMDang, I can't believe I didn't think of this sooner. Take a peek at PC Watch. John Ray has other watchdog style blogs too (Dissecting Leftism, Greenie Watch), a nice recipe blog (John Ray's Recipes) and a three pack of interest blogs (here, here, and here).
I think he'd do great with a Munu blog and sub-blogs.
Posted by Jim at April 5, 2004 01:16 PMDangnabbit. The first two interest blogs are here and here.
Posted by Jim at April 5, 2004 01:18 PMZombie zombie zombie

Virus! Virus!
Sorry, rational answers will have to wait until I've had some sleep.
Posted by Pixy Misa at April 5, 2004 01:25 PMHey y'all!
I finally decided to venture towards munuviana and am very glad that i did! There's so many of you! Makes me feel all insignificant when it comes to my humble attempt at a blog but i shall just study from the masters!
Though i do think mine's quite pretty...
AxXx
Posted by Lemurgirl at April 5, 2004 02:10 PMWretchard's Belmont Club and John Ray's many sites (where does he find the time?) are good stuff but they are heavily political. What do you guys think? I have no problem with either of them, but I'm not sure how they will fit into our community.
Posted by Pixy Misa at April 5, 2004 05:21 PMI thought the rule was that political was OK if it was funny ... so the question to be answered is: is what they write funny? Then again, is anything my former benefactor is currently offering to read all that funny? Having this small marsupial brain makes thinking a chore ... I get very confused.
Posted by Kang A. Roo at April 5, 2004 05:29 PM"is what they write funny?"
Is that actually a criterion for entry into MuNu? I'm in trouble...
Posted by physics geek at April 5, 2004 05:40 PMNo, the rule is political is okay as long as it distinguishes fact from opinion. I prefer fact, but opinion is only a problem when it masquerades as fact. And it's only a big problem when the author himself forgets the distinction.
The bloggers need to have a sense of humour, but their writing need not be funny. Some topics can survive being taken seriously.
Posted by Pixy Misa at April 5, 2004 05:46 PM*Off topic* whoa... 200 coments. Now 201. Yea! I feel special.
Posted by M 0.o kie at April 5, 2004 06:16 PMI really like this one: ::Freespace::. And he links Annika! Ooh, and TexasBestGrok too!
Posted by Pixy Misa at April 5, 2004 06:21 PMYeah, 200 comments is cool, but it's starting to get unmanagable. So what I'm going to do is...
Posted by Pixy Misa at April 5, 2004 06:25 PMThe real question then I suppose is: are they linked to me? ... oh wait, I am homeless .... nevermind.
Kang, the brainless marsupial that likes to poke his nose into everything
Posted by Kang A. Roo at April 5, 2004 06:43 PMAnd The GeekWithA.45 links Mookie, so we gotta have him.
Posted by Pixy Misa at April 5, 2004 07:56 PMYeah. GeekWithA.45 is cool. I just never bothered moving his link up to the good but non-munu.
Posted by M 0.o kie at April 5, 2004 09:24 PMI wasn't sure about Belmont Club, hence I threw it open. It is more political and heavy than is the norm here so I'd understand if it doesn't fit the Munuviana way of life.
Posted by Simon at April 6, 2004 01:34 AMWhat Simon said, but about John Ray. He's normally pretty straight with just some occasional humor. I think he's too busy writing to think up jokes. ;-)
Anyway, he is very political and firmly seated to the right. He's not a belligerent pundit though so he may or may not fit into the Munu style. Take a peek and make a mention.
Posted by Jim at April 6, 2004 11:27 AMI stuck my snout into the Belmont Club and nosed around, and although there was nothing really stinky about what I sniffed, I did nose around in the links, however, and noticed that there was not a single munu blog among such, not even Susie. As such, I have to vote Nay.
Kang, the sleuthin' 'Roo
Posted by Kang A. Roo at April 6, 2004 02:26 PMHas anyone asked Alice?
(At this rate, my entire blogroll will be over here.)
Posted by Jennifer at April 7, 2004 04:09 AMI suggested Alice way back when... I don't remember what happened.
Posted by Pixy Misa at April 7, 2004 10:47 AMHow's about Blogo Slovo. Dave is next week's Bestofme Symphony host.
Posted by Jim at April 7, 2004 11:24 AMBuy Alice a Shirley Temple... she is a teacher afterall.
Posted by Madfish Willie at April 7, 2004 04:22 PMIf she's a teacher, I suspect a triple vodka with a beer chaser is more in order.
Posted by Pixy Misa at April 7, 2004 04:26 PMI heard a friend of mine was going to start blogging. I was going to let it take over my spot, but then I have no spot.
Pixy must be very very busy.
Posted by Kang A. Roo at April 7, 2004 11:50 PMHey, I was directed here by Rae.
I used to have a website here, but gave up blogging for 4 months, due in part with frustration with the hosts lack of helpfulness, despite having paid them $100 for a year of hosting on my blog.
I'm ready/eager to start blogging again, but my wife doesn't really want me to put out cash again, since I stopped blogging 8 months after paying the last $100. So I was going to go to blogspot again (where I started 2 years ago) and restart, but Rae told me not to.
Do you still have room for me?
I have a sense of humor...if you call a prediliction for puns to be humor...
But I do have some sense of irony about my political views (and about politics in general). I think you could get corroboration of same from people like ZB of Resurrection Song, Kevin of BlogoSFERICS, and Deb of AccidentalVerbosity.
I can't access my yahoo account from work, but could you contact me whether or not you accept my request/application for free bloghosting?
Posted by nathan at April 8, 2004 07:22 PMHi Nathan! Yes, I think we can find room for you. I have actually visited your blog before, though not for a while.
Posted by Pixy Misa at April 8, 2004 08:57 PMCool! Contact me at your earliest convenience at the yahoo address, and I'll respond as soon as I get home.
There are no archives to transfer, so that should make it easier.
Hey Pixy, I maybe shouldn't have done it on impulse without running it by you first, but I asked Ace at http://ace-o-spades.blogspot.com if by chance he was happy on blogspot and, surprise, he isn't. He has the link to this post so I suppose if he's interested in going the mu.nu route he'll drop by. Any objections? (I know: I should have inquired about potential objections first. Bad, bad, bad bad me.)
He's a little polemical and about, oh, miles to the right of me politically, but he's also funny as hell and a very civil guy, as nearly as I can tell from what little correspondence I've had with him. I really think he'd be a great catch for Munuviana, but I Bow to Thy Will on this one (as in all things mu.nu).
Posted by ilyka at April 12, 2004 09:46 PMI directed Dave of Blogged and Dangerous to check you out. His blog was hosted at Right We Are, which dissapeared a few weeks ago, so he's homeless right now.
Posted by Ith at April 14, 2004 10:08 PMDang it. There goes my distinction as the only homeless blogger around.
Posted by Kang A. Roo at April 15, 2004 06:04 AMI'm not going to make a nomination just yet. But I wonder: what about Outer Slobobians? Are we welcome here too?
