Subject : The domain tig.mu.nu (tiger) is about to exceed bandwidth limit

The domain tig.mu.nu (tiger) has reached 80% of its bandwidth limit.
Please contact the system admin as soon as possible.

Pixy, what do I do? I keep gettin' swamped with people lookin' for that Nick Berg video.

[UPDATE: I was so hopin' this story was slowin' down, but I got more visitors today than any of the other days. The only good thing about the whole scenario is that the number of return visitors is climbin'. 169 today, which is phenomenal.]

Tig:

It may be a bit like trying to lighten a battleship by emptying the ashtrays, but you could go into your MT control panel and tell it to only show your most recent 6 or 7 posts on the front page. That'll reduce the overhead of hits to the front page at least a bit.

More importantly, I've optimised the compression on your header graphic, cutting it down by over half to only 21kb instead of 50kb. That's a decent chunk of bandwidth saved on each hit to your main page. Pop me an email if you'd like me to forward it to you. (It's exactly the same image dimensions... you'd just swap it for the existing one.)

What you do is just keep chugging along while Pixy quietly bumps up your bandwidth allocation :)

A few of the more popular Munuvian blogs have run into this, and it just means I need to increase the allocation from the default of 5GB per month.

Though it wouldn't hurt to check how big your page is - and graphics tend to count more than text.

Over 90% of the current hits over the last couple of days are going to one archive page, which has no graphics on it. I do not want to mention why, as if I do, then I might be settin' up Munuviana to get a lot of hits also once the Google spiders come around.

Anyway, thanks Pixy, again, for all you do.

By the way ... I was actually already thinking or redoin' my title graphic, but I suspect it will be a larger sized file than what is there currently. swf files have a tendency to be a bit larger. However, such project is only in the works and I promise you it will not be finished before the current Google search dilemma is finally over --- I hope!
