Buses Considered Harmful

The lovely and talented LeeAnn links to a blog that recently got unceremoniously dumped from its host, Greeblie. I don't know that much about Greeblie, but as far as I know it was a blogging community like MuNu. Now it seems to be gone.

Which raises the question of what if something happened to me? If, for whatever reason, I couldn't attend to MuNu for an extended period, there's currently no backup Pixy in place. I'd like to do something about that; just because I get run over by a bus is no reason for MuNu to get run over as well.

I fully intend to keep MuNu not just running but growing for the next fifty years at a minimum, but buses do happen and we have to take precautions. The two critical things are the master MuNu password, and the monthly payment for the server. The first I will entrust to a couple of Munuvians. For the second, I'll probably set up a PayPal account so that people can contribute towards the running costs should that become necessary. Any other thoughts?

The old "bus theory"... I am familiar with that form of managment!!

I think that covers things pretty well... there is a post regarding the guidelines for membership... we have Ellis Island for nominations and discussion... the helpful thingys in the sidebar... all in all a pretty good foundation.

And I'll try to remember to look both ways :)

Sounds good. Perhaps a backup monetary plan so those of us who don't have Paypal can send in our two cents. :)

A great idea. You didn't cover the lightning strikes or killer snakes, but being Australian these things never happen to us.

I can see the documentary now, when the TV crew follows the team into the Munu crypt to finally reveal the secrets within. I'm really hoping you put a jack-in-the-box in the crypt, just to give everyone a bit of a jolt.

More seriously, can I suggest a Paypal button anyway so we can contribute to the running costs? I know I certainly would like to give something back...aside for the annual Christmas lunch (I'm in Oz from mid Dec to early Jan again - are you around?)

I'll put the PayPal button up, and if I end up with too much money we can get a bigger server :)

I'll be in Sydney at the end of the year. Might be away for Christmas itself, but that will be only three or four days. Mmm, lunch...

You'll be doing the ordering again.

Was it my imagination or was it a particularly sunny Sydney summer's day that day?

Good times.

Let us know once the button is up. Maybe we'll offer that Glenn a spot in Munu one day.

Can I second LeeAnn's idea of a non-pay pal method when you get around to it? I don't have pay pal because I am relunctant to give them access to my checking account (so they can deposit 2 cents or whatever), but I very much would like to be able to make a contribution. Also, mind the subways, please. They always seem more dangerous to me than the buses.

The fellow who was running Greeblie ran out of energy and money, as I understand it, and when he decided to pull the plug, he did so without telling any of us until after the fact. Which meant our blogs were here one day and had gone kablooie the next. No archives or anything left.

I would be interested in MuNu, if you will e-mail me, please.

Hi all. I've emailed Jordana, and hope that she will make MuNu her new home.

As for non-PayPal contributions - probably the best thing would be if some kind USian Munuvian with PayPal could collect the contributions in other forms and forward them? I know that if you were to send me a cheque, the banks would probably eat the whole thing and then some in fees. (Banks. Grrr!)

I'm only set up to take payments in chocolate and baby rabbits, otherwise...

Do NOT get hit by a bus, dearest Pixy. It lacks the cache associated with munu...plus it would probably sting a bit.

I actually thought we adressed this last autumn sometime.

Yes, definately work something out with Susie and/or Jennifer and/or Madfish and/or Daniel and/or FrankJ even fer crying out loud to take the helm in case of a bus mishap!
