Archive Template Help

I want to change my archive template to look just like my main page template. I've tried several of my own homegrown tweaks and I'm doing something wrong. I just can't seem to turn it from a single column to a dual column. I figure that if I put all my links up in a sidebar in all of my archives, I might get some people to click around my blogroll, including my munuvian blogroll--more traffic all around!!

On a related note, will somebody wake me up when evil Glenn Reynolds is dead? Am I the only munivian without an Instalaunch or am I in good company. I saw the our own flying spacemonkey got an Instalaunch. I mean, did the spacemonkey have to pay Glenn Reynolds off, threaten him, or was it his girlish physique and promises of pleasure that brought Glenn around?? Enquiring minds want to know!!

First, change your archives where it says 'div id ="container" ' to 'div id="content" '... that will change the main column to your index page specs... then, copy paste your sidebar code into your archive templates... [SAVE] & [REBUILD]...

Don't forget to save a copy of your files before you start messing around with them... or you'll be sorry!!!!

I've never been Instalanched, either. The closest I got was several mentions at the Emperor Misha's (I broke the 30-comment mark with my tribute to Rachel Lucas!).

Rachel and Andrew Sullivan have quoted me, but didn't link me in the process. Ah well.

I think that the best way to get an Instalanche is to send Glenn yer post. But (and this is important) DON'T SEND HIM JUST ANY OL' POST. Wait until you really think you'vce hit it.

When you know -- beyond any doubt -- that you've written something that others will be glad they read, then send Glenn a message. Don't bug him with ordinary crapola... all he'll do then is jus' learn to ignore your emails in a New York minute.

Madfish, I understand most of yer instruction, but this:

"then, copy paste your sidebar code into your archive templates"

has me baffled. I'm interested in doing the same thing Rusty want to do, but what the fark is my "sidebar code"? Where will I find it...? How will I identify it?

Your help is gold, man. Talk to me like I'm a gifted six-year-old who doesn't know crap about computers! :P

Your code for your sidebar is mostly likely between <div id="links"> tags... you paste it into the archive templates after the </MTEntries> and 2 </div> tags... just like it is in your main index template... next stick yer finger into to wall socket and tst for current... you'll know it hot when you smell haor burning!

Is that about as clear as muddy water?????

[HaroldMan and YellowDog are both helping me right now... I hope they got everything right... for a change!]

It was an email, my girlish figure was just icing.

It only took me a year of trying I gave him a gmail account have tipped him on a number of occasions he even linked to a post I submitted on Dean's World one time. I've debased myself plenty for this.

Still, Lileks links give more traffic at least on the first day of the -lanche.
