Server Errors

We still seem to be getting the occasional Error 500 (internal server error) from Movable Type. Things have improved now that I have shut down a couple of denial of service attacks (well, not so much denial of service as screwing up of service), but I can still error 500 coming up now and then in the logs.

Leave a comment here if you see this; I'll continue working on a permanent fix.

I'll just add that this isn't a problem with Movable Type, but with our server... Somewhere.

Interestingly I get the 500 error, but the post makes it through when I rebuild the index. On the plus side, it's very fast in posting.

Yeah...

The really annoying thing is that it's not recording any details of the errors anywhere, so I have no idea what's really happening. It gets worse when the server is busy, but that's not what's really causing it.

Aargh!

I have tons of trackback spam, but the despammer seems to be half working, i.e. it removes the trackback from the post but there must be some independent table of trackbacks, because they still come up in "latest trackbacks" - and I have no idea how to access them - I don't even know if they are to posts that I missed or detritus of trackbacks that I've deleted.

Okay, I'm getting something different:

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@blog.mu.nu and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Nevermind. I'm stupid. That's the 500 error you're talking about.

I republished the entire blog and I still get the 500 but it finally posted. It didn't trackback though.

Happy 4th of July!
