I am having difficulty with making categories work. (I since removed the code out of frustration, so you won't find the categories at my site.) When I had them on the site, I'd click on them, and instead of seeing the posts within the category, I get one of those "Page cannot be found." Can anyone please clearly explain how to make them function correctly? Thank u.

You have to turn on category archiving before you can do anything with them. The fact you're getting a 'not found' error makes me suspect categories haven't been enabled.
Go to your MT admin page, and click on the Weblog Config button in the links down the left side of the page.
Next page, click on the Archiving link at the top of the page. NOT the link in the list below General Setting, the one along the top of the window (2nd line) that comes after Core Setup and Preferences.
On the resulting page, under the column that says Archive Type, look at the bottom entry. It will say Category with a checkbox beside it. I'm betting there's no check in the box. If not, put a check in there, then click Save. Once the page has saved, you will need to (re)build your category archives in order to actually create the files on the server.
To do that, just click the Rebuild Site button on the sidebar, then when the little window pops up, click the dropdown arrow and tell it to Rebuild Category Archives Only. Then click the Rebuild button.
This will create the files on the sever so there's something there when you link to your categories from your index page.
Let me know how it goes (or that the category archiving had already been turned on).

Posted by Light & Dark at August 1, 2005 08:23 AMThanks for the help, but category archiving was already turned on.
Posted by Mark at August 2, 2005 09:43 AMHave you also done a rebuild of the category archives? That's the part that actually creates the files on the server.
Posted by Light & Dark at August 2, 2005 03:40 PMYes, I did a rebuild of the category archives.
I still get:
"Not Found
The requested URL /archives/Keep_Talking_Howard.html was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
