Import From Blogger

All right -- I admit it. I've been posting at Rhymes With Right since April, but still haven't imported my old posts from my old blogger site.

"Why?", you may ask (then again, you may not care -- but I'm guessing you do since you've read this far).

Well, it is a little matter of not understanding the instructions in the MT manual.

So, I need one of two things:
1) Someone to explain the process to me in words of (preferably) one syllable or less; or
2) Someone to volunteer to do the dirty deed for me (no, not THAT dirty deed!).

Any help is appreciated -- and please forgive my utter lameness.

Greg:

Pixy recently posted a set of really good instructions on importing Blogspot specifically to MuNu. It's at
http://munuviana.mu.nu/archives/087301.php

Have a look at that post & see if you feel up to it. If not, by all means post back here and we can set you up to have either Jim or I do it for ya.

Hey Pixy... just in case you read this.

Is there any way we can get the Search script on this page to only search Munuviana, instead of returning results form all MuNu blogs? It would really help Munuvians to be able search for tech answers here before having to post. There's a wealth of info here, but it's bloody hard to track down. Oh, and can you put the Importy instructions link in the sidebar as a Useful Thingy?

The Importy instructions were excellent, but I've had awful trouble importing more than 999 posts. I somehow managed to get up to 1,200 or so (don't ask me how), but lately when I import, instead of importing posts which I have not already imported, it imports posts which I already have, thus duplicating the posts on my Mu.Nu site. Then I have to go thru the entire list of posts on my Mu.Nu site and delete the duplicates. Forgive my lack of expertise, but there has GOT to be an easier way to do this. Technies can complicate a glass of water.

Yeah, doing more than 999 is going to be a problem. I didn't realise that anyone had that many posts.

Paul - yes and yes. I might make two search things, one to search munu and one just Munuviana.

When you consider that "recently" means 15,000 posts ago... :)

Give me a buzz if you need help with it, Greg. I've done a bazillion of 'em.

I just went with Google. I think it works better than MT, and also takes some load off of Pixy's server.

David:

That's what I had to do too, even knowing the post I was looking for. Thing is, some of the recent new recruits won't know how to get google to limit itself to jsut one site. It'd be great to be able to say: Iff you've got a question, be sure to search Munuviana first.

But not when, as Pixy points out, that's 15,000 posts since June. Holy crap, Pixy!

David - Yeah, the MT search function (at least in 2.6; haven't really pushed the 3.1 version very hard yet) - is complete crap.

But MT wasn't really designed to handle 100,000+ posts. It's holding up fairly well, but we do need to move to something better, and I'm working on that again now that I've finished moving house.

What's wrong with just using Google? Including their code is as easy as including MT's. And they do it for free on their own server, and do it well.

Nothing, really. It's certainly faster.

Boy do I feel like a slug. I've been posting since March and haven't brought them over. I hate blog maintenance.

Guess I should finally just do it. Blech.
