A Few More Setup Issues

I've encountered a couple of problems setting up the blog that I hope you can help me with:

The first concerns the process of importing my old posts from typepad. I uploaded the archive file to the right location, and a lot of posts and comments were successfully imported, but at one point the import failed with the following message:

Saving entry ('')... failed Saving entry failed: Column 'entry_author_id' cannot be null

I'm not sure whether this was a failure to read the file correctly or whether there was actually a null entry, but looking within the archive I can't find one. What would happen if I just started the import all over again? It got about 90% of the way through, so can I just edit the archive in such a way that it starts with the next post that would have been imported? If I start at the beginning will I end up with duplicate posts, or will they overwrite?

The second issue concerns the fact that although "parking" demosophia.com at demosophia.mu.nu redirects demosophia.com to the new blog it apparently doesn't redirect www.demosophia.com. And I can't add the "www" flavor to the list of parked domains because I get a message that it's already on the list. In other words CPanel doesn't recognize a difference between www.demosophia.com and demosophia.com although the name servers apparently do. What should I do?

You won't want to just try re-importing the whole file, as the second import won't overwrite the existing posts; you will get doubles of everything up to the failure. (Blech)

You can certainly edit the import archive file, (it's just a txt file) to delete everything that imported successfully, then try again with what's left. In particular, look at the first posts after the failure and compare them to the successful ones before you edit. It sounds like, for some reason, at least one of the posts doesn't have an author entry id, which is what's messing up the import at that point. You'll be able to figure out which element in the post is the auth ID and can see if it's there (in which case retry with the edited import file) or if not there, you acan dd it in the correct format and then try from there.

It may take some experimentation, but just don't do a complete re-import, or you'll have a lot a deleting to do!

Hopefully Pixy can help you with the "www" propagation issue.

www.demosophia.com works for me (brings up the same page as demosophia.mu.nu). What do you get? It's certainly supposed to work that way; CPanel sets things up so that you get the same site with or without the www.

I've checked demosophia.com, www.demosophia.com & demosophia.mu.nu and they're all on the same page.

I did a whois and the name servers are setup properly (both pointing to the Moo Knew DNS Servers). So there shouldn't be anything left to do.

If you're still getting the old blogsplat page the changes probably haven't reached your ISP's DNS Server. If the changes have taken place in a day or two call, they may be having problems.

Appaently the www subdomain wasn't working on my computer because some of my "private data" sent me to the old site. Once I cleared the private data www worked. Also, I have been able to import the rest of my posts from the old site. I'm not sure what caused the error that stopped the previous import, but it was probably electronic. The data itself seemed OK. I just deleted up to the point of the failure and started again. Thanks for all your help, guys!

Now I've got to make the plain jane blog a little more attractive, import my blogroll, etc.
