WHY TRACKBACKS ARE NOT WORKING

We have received over three four million trackbacks so far this month.

Of which perhaps a thousand are valid.

If anyone wants their trackbacks, I have a six hundred megabyte logfile. They're in there somewhere. I'm happy to email it to you.

As I mentioned below, trackbacks are very likely to remain disabled until Minx supports them. I'll see what Snark can do with the current lot, but I'm not terribly optimistic.

Would it be possible to make the trackback URL completely unpredictable?

Given that trackbacks have to work automatically without user intervention, it's really hard to protect them. But yeah, we could do something to block out the stupider spammers.

Truth is, I don't think I've seen a legitimate trackback in months (well, maybe one or two).

Well, trackbacks basically haven't been working since late May.  During the DDOS attack I accidentally wiped out the trackback spam filter while moving files from one server to the other.  It hasn't been the same since.

Again, it seems like a time limit on trackbacks would solve 99% of the problem (just like comments). Most of the spammage seems to come on older posts.
