Is it possible to prevent the "Comments ()" link from even appearing at the bottom of posts in MT2.6 ? (Not just from one post, but from all.) If not, is there something I can do to modify how it appears or what happens when the 'sorry' message comes up, after I've disallowed comments?

You can just remove that bit from the template - then it will be gone for good.

What part of which template? I'm not going to do this to my blog, btw. It's for an installation where I work, but it's the same version of MT. We're also looking around for a new hosting service, so when your new Minx system has been thoroughly betaed...
Posted by Demosophist at December 4, 2006 02:12 PMI think I've got it. Deleted two sections from the Main Index Template that appeared to be related to comments and trackbacks. So far doesn't seem to have ruined anything, but there's always that possibility.

That possibility exists even when you don't touch anything. 
One of the databases at work dropped dead today. No reason; it just didn't want to work any more.
