1. Cleaned up scads of spam on previous postings of mine on this blog. Also closed off comments to prevent future spam accretion.
2. Check out stevejanke.com (aka angrygwn.mu.nu). See how dangerous a little knowledge is? Need to re-implement the blogrolls next.
3. To Pixy - where are we on the 301 redirect? I'm looking at Google Analytics, and 24% of my traffic is direct to stevejanke.com (and www.stevejanke.com), while a further 16% is coming from that other domain, ie, angrygwn.mu.nu. Obviously these are the same and I'm looking forward to see the SEO effect of redirecting all the traffic to stevejanke.com so that Google combines the link and traffic numbers.**
** To search engine newbies, remember that Google ranking is, fundamentally, a function of the number of inbound links. Any links to angrygwn.mu.nu are seen as to a different site because I've parked stevejanke.com on it. So to Google, each of these two sites are different and have, say, 200 links each, and are ranked accordingly. With a 301 redirect, Google treats the sites as the same, and credits the main site (stevejanke.com) with all the links from the other domain (angrygwn.mu.nu). Now with 400 inbound links, I zip up the rankings.
Hi Steve. Nice design!
Sorry about the lack of progress on the 301 redirect. Let me try something quickly right now.
Posted by Pixy Misa at February 23, 2007 11:45 AMOkay, that actually worked.
What I need to do is unpark the domains, and set them up as separate domains in CPanel. Then you can use CPanel to easily set up the redirects.
To do this, I need to delete the stevejanke.com domain (from this server, that is, not the domain itself), rename angrygwn.mu.nu to stevejanke.com, re-create angrygwn.mu.nu as a new account, and then set the redirect.
This might cause some downtime for your site - it shouldn't, or at least not more than a couple of minutes, but it might happen.
I can do it this Sunday if that suits you.
Posted by Pixy Misa at February 23, 2007 11:59 AMSounds good. I don't understand the details. Is there anything I have to do at GoDaddy where the domain is registered?
Also, I supposed stephenjanke.com gets the same treatment. It's the other domain I have, though I don't think anyone links to it. stevejanke.com is the actual domain I want Google to redirect to.
Posted by Steve Janke at February 23, 2007 12:15 PMYou won't have to change anything at GoDaddy - this is all server configuration stuff.
I'll do stephenjanke.com as well - shouldn't be a problem.
Posted by Pixy Misa at February 23, 2007 10:30 PMHow did it work out? Funny, I still feel the same.
