Timing Out

When I go to publish a new post, very often it takes a very long time to rebuild, and then the screen goes white rather than indicating it is sending out pings. Why is this, and can it be fixed?

It seems to be working fine now, at least for me. It could have been a network issue or a spam flood.

The problem is that it happens a lot

That's not good. I'm not using Movable Type any more, so I haven't seen it.

Is anyone else seeing this? Any info on when it happened and what you were doing at the time would help me track it down.

Pixy, it's been happening probably 70% of the time over at Rocket Jones. Usually I just hit the back button and then jump back to the editing menu. The article posts, it seems to be the pings timing out or something.

Pings timing out are beyond my control - but it should come back with an error, not with a blank screen. Hmm.

I'll do some test posts and see what I can find.

Well, and it is actually timing out BEFORE it gets to the pings screen -- the rebuild takes forever, and then I get a blank screen with no error message of any kind.

And i am using MT.

And I deal with things the same way Ted does.

Thanks, that lets me know where to look.

Though the best solution will probably be to move to Minx, which doesn't do rebuilds.

I just have to finish testing the import module.

Ugh.

Okay, Movable Type is just taking forever to rebuild your blog. I tried tweaking some settings but that doesn't seem to have helped much. I also increased the timeout on the web server, so now you should at least get a page back rather than a blank screen.

I'm not sure why your blog is so much slower than Munuviana, though.
