I did see the hiccup, and are we still under attack?
Somehow, I noticed that my entries are being edited by some outside source-hypertext ad links are being added to my posts!
What the...?
How do I stop this?
Posted by Everydaystranger at April 30, 2004 11:36 AMSee? It just did it to my post below-"Internet" is now hyper-linked.
FUCK!
How do I stop this?
Posted by Helen at April 30, 2004 11:37 AMNevermind-think it's just my laptop that's infected. I checked this site and my site on my home pc, and it shows up fine.
I have no idea what's going on.
Posted by Helen at April 30, 2004 11:40 AMLovely Wife was infested with that once. It's a helper spyware thing that adds reference hyperlinks all over the place. Are they backlighted in yellow and have a wavy underline? Hers did - to differentiate them from real hyperlinks. Go for Adaware and/or Spybot Search & Destroy and you can get rid of it.
Posted by Jim at April 30, 2004 12:31 PMIts a very nifty* piece of spam that highlights keywords in web documents and makes them hyperlinks to commercial sites. AdAware should get it but you can also check your add remove programs list in control panel to see if you can nuke it that way.
*nifty in that it installs silently and is a pig to get rid of! As spam machines go that's about as good as you get
Posted by Rob at April 30, 2004 02:06 PMAh....AdAware has saved the day and fixed my problem.
Thank you boys.
I HATE it when my pc gets messed with. Bad hair, broken heart, nothing good on tv-I can deal with all of that, but not a broken pc.
Posted by Helen at April 30, 2004 04:22 PMI think it attacks your browser rather than your ISP program or hard drive. I wrote a post about a week agao where "ad hominem" was underlined and highlighted as a link to an on-line dictionary. I'll presume that no one else can see it as a link because it only shows up as such when I look at my site in IE. When I'm on in Mozilla it doesn't show as a link.
