I Don't Know if I'm Allowed to/Supposed to Ask Questions Here...

...but it looks like that's what people are doing.

The web-design for my current page is GunSmoke by Maystar designs. She has a Moveable Type version, but when I cut and paste it into my CSS Stylesheet box, it just doesn't work at all. There's no sidebar, the whole screen is used for the content-area, and the huge banner-title font is used instead as the title for individual postings.

My question is sort of vague, because I don't know enough to sharpen it. I'm not asking anyone to look at this code and check for errors (it's possible the thing is just badly written), but is there something simple and basic I'm missing? Am I wrong for assuming I can just cut and paste the template into my Stylesheet box?

I took a look, and yeah, the way that style is set up it won't work as a Stylesheet.

The style is embedded right into the template, so you'd need to paste it into your Main Index template instead... Of course, then you would lose your changes. I can try editing the Stylesheet for you if you'd like.

No, you don't have to make changes, if what you mean by "changes" are just putting my dumb links and pictures and stuff in. I can figure all that out easily enough.

I just figured out, two minutes ago, that the thing was supposed to go into the Main Index Archive box, not the Stylesheet box.

I just want to know-- am I losing something or doing something wrong by not having anything in the Stylesheet box? The site seems to be working, but it seems like if there's a box, there should be stuff inside of it.

And I guess that rather than a "modular" design this means I'm going to have to make all changes to the Main Index, right?

Thanks for offering to do the changes, though.

I'm just worried that this isn't the right way to use Moveable Type, and that I'm screwing up royally by sticking this in the Main Index Archive.

See, I knew I was missing out on something.

Now I don't have that cool automatic commenting & trackback feature.

I think I'll be able to figure out where that code should go, though.

Yep. It will all work; it's just a bit more fiddly.

Oh, and this is the right place for questions like this. :)

Yes, you need to add this to the main index, not the style sheet. How do I know this, becuase I, too, am using Gunsmoke by Maystar. You will need to do a lot of cutting and pasting to get that blogskin, or any other, to have all of the features found in the default blog. Good luck

Dave,

Cool. How did you expand the margins? Looks like you're page is bigger than mine.

And I've got a problem with the link color. My links are supposed to be red, like yours are, and then turn grey when used. But mine all seem to be gray to start with.

Did you have that problem?

I didn't touch the margins, but I did redo the colors. Look at the top of the skin, you'll see settings for the colors. You can change this. Can someone provide a link for color coees?
