Old timers know about these but I'm sure our recent importees don't. You can have a "handy" URL for your blog. Especially for the folks with long URLs this can be very...um...handy. Here's an example of how it works:
My regular mu.nu URL is http://snoozebuttondreams.mu.nu/.
I also have a URL of http://sbd.mu.nu/.
You may notice here that "sbd" is way more convenient to type than "snoozebuttondreams". These two locators are completely interchangeable. http://snoozebuttondreams.mu.nu/archives/061784.html is exactly the same as http://sbd.mu.nu/archives/061784.html in every respect. They open the same page and handle everything identically. I use "snoozebuttondreams" for my official published URL but I've got "sbd" for when I'm tooling around my own site.
If you would like a handy URL just sound off in the comments here. If I set up your mu.nu blog myself I can get you set up lickety split. If I didn't set you up I'll forward your request to the Great and Mighty Pixy.
Posted by Jim at May 12, 2005 01:13 PMThere's a problem with that. If you use the shortcut to open an individual entry, for example, someone who links to you will likely use it to link to a post. But Technorati won't catch it as a link to your blog. The TTLB Ecosystem will catch it if you give it your alternate URL. So if you care about your Technorati status, don't do this.
Posted by David Boxenhorn at May 12, 2005 01:46 PMThe links built by MT will always use your "official" URL. That is, your permalinks will always have the long name, even if you got there with the handy one.
Example - I sign a comment with sbd.mu.nu as my url. Somebody follows that to my blog. They see a post they like and open it up with the permalink. The url on that permalink uses my default url, not sbd.mu.nu. Same thing if they right click on the permalink and choose 'copy url' - they get the full url, not the handy one.
I don't think there is much of a problem here with Technorati, unless you are actually sending somebody a link using the handy url. But how many times have you typed out a full url including "/archives/postnumber.html" and sent it to somebody? I just right click on a permalink when I want to send a url to somebody.
Posted by Jim at May 12, 2005 01:59 PMHmm. There are a few two-letter codes that I want to reserve. (Runs off to computer... Oh, I'm already there.)

Posted by Jim at May 12, 2005 05:45 PMHey, Jim! Would "ag.mu.nu" work? Would you mind setting it up, if it does work?
Posted by Dave at May 12, 2005 08:31 PMI've still got the painters slowing up the plumbers on the construction on the new site, but I'd love to have ov for quick access to help the construction along. Thanks in advance!
