…. Ummmm…. Oops?.... I seem to have exceeded my bandwidth…. Can ya help out, Pixy?.... I am trying to work through the Hotlink Protection in cPanel X to keep this from happening again….
… sorry for the spot of bother…
.. oh, and while I'm thinking of it, I have been unable to get pings from other's links or send trackbacks since last June... (not that it has been a big priority.. heh heh..) ... the last trackback that I got was from my post on when Acidman passed away in June 2006.... it's kinda depressing to see that as my last ping every time that I log in to post.... so, can you help out?....
... all the best to you and yours,
Eric
Hello,
I am still getting visitors from http://lemurgirl.mu.nu/ and http://grumbles.mu.nu/!
They are arriving at http://www.wheelingparanormal.com
Not sure why but maybe someone here does...
Nick
Okay I went and looked, I do NOT see "fru" in the blacklist. I can't find it in a search except in the middle of one url that Pixy entered. Yet, any words with that string are blacklisted... anyone have any ideas? What am I missing?
We're looking at Movable Type 4 here at work, and my sys admin has asked some questions. I've tried to explain the MT model to him (it's a file processor, and not a file server), but I think he is stuck in a Community Server way of thinking.
So here is a question he asked that to me painfully obvious to answer, but in case there is something hidden in it, I wanted Pixy and other knowledgeable people to look at it.
How does this software work in multi-site environments? Say I want to install MT4 open source on a server and have both Blog1 and Blog2 running on that single install on the same server– possible? How? I know their commercial Enterprise product does this – does the open source one?
Don't worry about Enterprise and Open Source distinctions -- I'm working on identifying the differences between them, if any. But the idea of running multiple blogs from a single install of MT with multiple authors is what we do here on mu.nu. That's normal, right?
Ok, Fluffy evidently doesn't like phrases with the letters "IT" in them... I have tried to leave comments at 3 different MuNu blogs and had them all rejected. The offending phrases?
"kit"
"cit" -- this is pissy, as it is in my email addy
"uit"
I q"uit"
Got hit with the comment spammers this weekend. I don't know if it's gauche to ban IPs or not, but I find it somewhat cathartic. If you're into that here's the list:

I'm not sure how to get to the blacklist and remove something, nor am I skilled enough to attempt it without some down to earth instruction, however, someone has blacklisted "blog.com" which is a strange one to block. Several blogs are listed as something like http://thisismyblog.com and while I'm not sure if this is correct, I've had a few folk tell me they can't get through because the filter bans blog.com
Help?

die spammers, spam and spambots... DIE!!!
Hi Pixy, and a top O' the morning to ya. Tim Birdnow (http://Tbirdnow.mee.nu)is one of those folks that I gave a beta mee.nu link to and he has been using it. I asked him what he thought and this is his reply:
Hi GM!
I`ve had a very pleasurable experience with Mee.nu, though I can`t say I`ve exactly mastered it; I still don`t know how to load pictures, for example. Still, the fault is mine because there is a comprehensive guide explaining such things, and Pixy is ever willing to help when asked. I just haven`t devoted enough time to working with the system.
I like it better than Blogger, although I wish there were an archive feature and search bar. It took me a bit to get used to the different coding, but I picked that up quickly enough and, in fact, it`s easier to insert links and the like. I think Mee.nu has a bright future!
The only other problem with it is lack of broad-based access, insofar as Blogger appeared everywhere and people would come in just by clicking ``next blog`` , and it was much more prominently featured by Google. This can`t be helped until mee.nu gets larger, however, and there is nothing to be done. I`ve noticed a lot of people have abandoned ship with Blogger for Wordpress or other sites, and I have been much happier with the results I`ve been getting technically, so it is worth it. I just hope Pixy doesn`t start putting security encryptions on, or I`ll have the same problem I had with Blogger; my security won`t allow any sort of access to secure sites, and I can`t figure out how to fix it.
Send Pixy my thanks please, GM! He`s done a fine job!
Thought you might like to know of the Kudos
GM.
Other than being a royal pain in the kiester, what is the purpose of these damned gibberish spam attacks. I've removed a bunch over the last week and they are seemingly more prolific than sites for fake watches and cialis. Sheesh....
Cometh Minx, O' Pixy Misa, bring thy blessings to we bloggers that are famous and not so famous, shower us with security on the web and make us grateful to all the wonders of a true master of coding. Amen!
Comments are toast courtesy of yet another frigging fool who doesn't understand that they don't know how to use the blacklist.
Here's the error:

Can someone who knows what they are doing please get this sorted out? Thanks.
I've got blasted with gibberish spam all weekend long. At first I was just deleting them and closing comments on posts that got hit (The pattern was three comments per post before moving on) because it's too much trouble to take down all their IP addresses on my laptop.
Well, this morning, I'm back in possession of a mouse and here's a list of IPs that left comment spam last night:

Looks like someone F-ed up Blacklist again. Comment error message comes up as follows:

I'm having problems with spam on brain.mu.nu again. Also, it seems as if my pings/trackbacks aren't working. I can't figure out how to update MovableType, and I really liked the level of control I was able to get with Word Press (during my prodigal travels). If it's okay, I'd like to install WordPress to the brain.mu.nu website.
If it's not okay, do you have any hints about making MovableType better? How do I update to the Minx/MT system?
I guess I also need to get my password to the control panel to do either of these things. Could someone re-send it to me?
my addy is b r a i n f e r t il i z er ---------at------------- (REMOVETHIS) y a h oo ------------dotcom---------------
I trust you can remove the right things, remove spaces and change to the correct @ .com to extract the proper address, right?
Thanks,
Nathan (Brainfertilizer)
People, People.... I was just de-spamming and one of Rhymes with Right's comments came up because one of our number (*cough*-Mark!-*cough*) blacklisted "gmail.com." And no pointing and laughing, Planet Stories, because you blacklisted "google.com." (Ok, I'll admit it, I once accidentally blacklisted the word "teen" but it was an accident and I have had sleepless nights over it ever since then...)
Plus, just as a hint, if you are getting spammed from "aaa.xxxporn.com", and "bbb.xxxporn.com" and "fff.xxxporn.com" and "xyz.xxxporn.com," doesn't it just make more sense to ban "xxxporn.com" and smack 'em down before they work through the rest of the alphabet and every innocent word ever invented (which really clutters up the blacklist)? That's my opinion anyway (as someone whose browser crashes before it can list 20 thousand variations of one spammer's website). Of couse, use some judgment--don't ban all of bogsplot1 because of a few maggots...
End of kvetching....
1 Yes, I know--I call it that because I had a blog there back in prehistoric times, before the Golden Age of Munuvia (Thor bless Pixy Misa and all his issue)...
UPDATE: Well, now Eric went and blacklisted google.com, and Physics Geek blacklisted one of his own archive pages..... I took them both off, but if you folks keep adding junk to the blacklist at the rate you're going, I won't be able to load the page again before long...
UPDATE 2: Today, stotch blacklisted google.com! I may have to start sending you to bed without supper....
UPDATE 3 Eric! Google is your friend! Auuurgghh~!
Update again Billy Budd blacklisted google.com today. Maybe we should have a contest, and give the prize to the Munuvian who successfully avoids blacklisting google for 30 days....
Running Tally... Prochein Amy is now out of the running for the prize, so let's recap:
Planet Stories, Eric (twice!), stotch, Billy Budd and Prochein Amy have all blacklisted google.com in the last three days (we won't count triticale, 'cause he was saved by somebody else doing it for him). Plus, there was one mystery blacklister that someone else caught.
Anyone have any suggestions for the prize?
When I go to publish a new post, very often it takes a very long time to rebuild, and then the screen goes white rather than indicating it is sending out pings. Why is this, and can it be fixed?
My cPanel login doesn't seem to work (haven't used it in a few years, that might be why!)
Can one of our nice admins help? Is it still at: http://helen.mu.nu:2082/frontend/x/index.html? And what do I do if I can't remember my username and password?
Thanks!
Is it necessary for me to maintain DNS management with my registrar, pointing to mu.nu's name servers, or is that somewhat superfluous? For my new site on mee.nu do I need to purchase DNS management, and if so what name servers do I use? Prolly NS.MEE.NU and NS2.MEE.NU right?
Hi everyone.
I've stripped all the cruft from the blacklist, reducing it from around 31,000 entries to about 7500. In doing so, I collapsed multiple spammer domains down to their parent domains, and might inadvertently have blocked someone like, oh, TypePad. (Oops.) If you bump into anything like that, feel free to comment/post here, contact me by email, or just delete the offending entry.
I found another one to be removed from Blacklist-can you remove "us.com" from the banned list? I have some legitimate users who have gotten the ugly on that one.
