Mark blacklisted "http:" !
Please...if anyone knows who Mark is, ask him to be careful what he blacklists!!!!!
Ya know, I believe we might block a good amount of the spam comments that have hit us over the last couple of months by blocking this phrase:
"ite. Thank"
That'll cover all the "good site. Thanks." and "great site. Thank you." and numerous variations that I've been getting hit with (and I assume y'all have been too).
That's a space between the period and the capital T, if that matters.
I don't know enough about the blacklist to add this myself, so someone else could add this if it'll help.
Blacklisted: gpiuonvo.com]fysqvfaq[
How do I find him to let him know that open brackets are a no no?
This is GM Roper reporting: I am the author of GM's Corner and an erstwhile blogger who acknowledges that he is not too wise or knowledgeable when it comes to the management of his blog and html and css and all that mystical stuff that Pixy Misa is the acknowledged master of and my blogging hero! I do know that I don't know enough to make sure when I "blacklist" I don't blacklist the wrong thing so I don't blacklist anything. Having said that, I also acknowledge that there are those out there who know even less than I because they keep blacklisting open bracket stuff.
There, I've said my piece and I'll leave it to those who know what they ARE doing to correct it. Thanks!
Ummm, Susan R, whoever you are, PLEASE watch what you blacklist. Comments went down AGAIN because of open brackets in the blacklist.
Everyone, please watch what you blacklist, and if you have no idea how it works, just DON'T.
Thanks!
BTW Big thanks to Teresa for showing me how to fix the blacklist!
Dear Pixy,
Please contact "Susan R" and explain to her that blacklisting anything with open brackets in it breaks the comments....
Love,
Susie
...because it broke the comments....
I think I fixed it (fingers crossed...)
Anybody got any idea what the fuck this is???

It happens whenever anyone tries to post a comment on my site. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
I just tried to leave a comment at Tammi's place I get:

I see you added some blacklist stuff that looks much like the above Pixy. Since you added it, I didn't want to delete it... so how do we fix?
Thanks.
Hi everyone.
If people are still using beta.mu.nu, it will be going away for a day or so while I migrate it off the old server (Kasumi) onto Midori, which will be handling all of mu.nu going forward.
Meanwhile, the Minx Migration should begin this weekend. Sorry it's taken so long. :(
Midori - under construction now by our faithful team of builderbots - is a quad-core Xeon 3220 with 6GB of memory and a terabyte of disk. Midori will be taking over duties from Akane and Nabiki, which have been running mu.nu for the past year, and Kasumi, which quite frankly has been slacking.
(Kasumi was running the Minx beta and development environments, but then had a disk failure and I had to order another box (Kodachi) and move everything across. So since then it's only been running my blog...)
Then I'll be migrating mee.nu operations off Kodachi and onto Ukyo and Shampoo, and Kodachi will be reinstalled and come back as a second mu.nu server. And they'll all live in a virtual private rack with shared bandwidth, so we'll have 8TB a month to play with!
What this means to you:
Um, things will get faster.
And we'll have a few hours of downtime one Sunday in September while I move everything across.
And we shouldn't see any more of those situations where a spam flood brings the server to a halt.
Really.
Oh, and you get Minx too.
I'm back from the wish-I-was-dead (I had a nasty run-in with food poisoning, most likely salmonella, which wiped me out for about ten days) and preparing the last update to Minx before the migration begins. The update happens this Sunday, so from Monday onwards Minx will be open to all Munuvians.
I'll be posting some more details this weekend, but in the meantime, here are some pretty pictures courtesy of the new automatic banner generator thingy in Minx. (And that pop-uppy thing is also a new feature coming to Minx.)
Oh, and - we'll be moving servers next month. Staying with the same hosting company, though, so it should be a lot quicker and smoother than previous moves.
We'll be going from our current pair of dual Opterons (each with 2GB of memory) to a quad Xeon with 6GB of memory. That will be cheaper, faster, and easier for me to look after, so yay!
I just got an email from one of my readers. He doesn't have a blog, so when he posts a comment, his email is displayed. Turns out that some wanker grabbed his email addy from my comment section and emailed him asking for a link. He included my blog post with the comment as the place he found the email addy. You would think the moron might have figured out that someone with only an email address in that space, doesn't have a blog... but I digress. (I know I know it's spam... still it's annoying)
So, my question is, do we have some way in the version of MT we're using, to mask email addresses? I went looking, but if it's there, I'm missing it. I know it is done on other blog software, I just don't know if it can be done with this old version of MT.
Second question - will Minx mask email addresses for those who comment, but don't have a blog to link with their name when they comment?
Thanks!
Just wanted to apologize publicly for banning ".it" and ".cn"
I didn't realize that the "." would be interpreted as a command instead of a character.
Won't happen again.
I'm sorry.
My archives list is getting rather long, so I was wondering if I could condense all those months into a drop-down menu. What code should I use and where would I insert it?
Heya Pixy...
Question for 'ya: Anyway you can update us to the present version of MT? If this is possible, and before you do, what would this entail on our end? Our biggest gripe is that version 2.64 can only zap one spam comment (manually) at a time. Higher versions can do it en masse.
OR -- when will Minx be ready ... and what would that entail on our end?
Thanks as always!
Pixy, there are about a hundred entries in the blacklist with the .cn suffix. Since someone removed ".cn" and the system won't let me put it back in, is there some way you can do your punctuation magic and consolidate all those?
(P.S. About a week ago the default # of searched comments went back to 100 again--can you knock it back up to a grand or so?)
Here's an example (Eric added these):
a7-r-dfb.cn
a7-r-dfi.cn
a7-r-dfj.cn
a7-r-dfq.cn
a7-r-dfu.cn
a7-r-dfv.cn
a7-r-dfw.cn
a7-rd-fa.cn
a7-rd-fd.cn
a7-rd-fk.cn
a7-rd-fr.cn
a7-rd-ft.cn
a7-rdf-c.cn
a7-rdf-d.cn
a7-rdf-e.cn
a7-rdf-f.cn
a7-rdf-g.cn
a7-rdf-k.cn
a7-rdf-t.cn
a7-rdf-v.cn
a7-rdfb.cn
a7-rdfc.cn
a7-rdfd.cn
a7-rdfi.cn
a7-rdfk.cn
a7-rdfl.cn
a7-rdfn.cn
a7-rdfp.cn
a7-rdfq.cn
a7-rdfr.cn
a7-rdfx.cn
This is just junk cluttering up the blacklist.....
