Help!!

I've exceeded my "bandwidth" cept I'm a techtard and don't know what that means or what I need to do to fix it. (Pixy - I tried emailing you, but my emails keep bouncing back so that is why I'm putting this here.)

Anyone have any suggestions? I'm going through bloggy withdrawal. . .

Spam Filter Blues

I have a number of readers that have issues with the MuNu spam filter. Last night someone tried to post a comment that contained the word "geocities" in a hyperlink. Others have problems with mundane words.

What can be done about this?

TIA!

Attn All Munuvians!

As most of you know, last year I was diagnosed with lung cancer and have so far beat that bastard (16 months and counting) with no evidence of any tumors anywhere so far.

I decided to start an Anti-Cancer blog which you can find here: An Army of Bloggers which features a single post and a blogroll. (I used blogger because I understand Munuvia is closed to new blogs and I wanted it up quickly - I hope I'm forgiven) The purpose of the blog roll is simple, spread the word, and take on the responsibility of making an annual donation to the cancer research/treatment/support charity of your choice in any amount you choose. I'm hoping all of you will all join me in this effort. Greg at Rhymes With Right has already joined as his uncle is undergoing treatment even as I write this. The membership for the blog roll is simple, make a post on your blog announcing joining and who you support, go to An Army of Bloggers and make a comment giving the name (and address or URL) of your charity and putting the code for the blogroll on your blog's sidebar.

As I noted in the post, Cancer is no respecter of race, class, nationality, religion or anything else. It is a scourge that affects too many people, destroys too many families and it can be cured. I'm the living proof of that. Please consider joining An Army of Bloggers. You can get the blogroll code HERE (the script was written by Fred Witzell AKA Texas Fred.

Thanks

beta.mu.nu Downage

A drive has failed on the beta machine, and it's broken beta.mu.nu. I'm recovering everything I can from the failed drive - the databases and user files are safe, but I want to see if I can recover some config files. Then I'll be moving both beta.mu.nu and mee.nu to the production cluster.

Update: After a period of utter panic when I thought I'd lost the entire beta system including all recent backups - only about ten minutes, though I feel like it took ten years off my life - I have managed to recover everything. The system is running again on the good disk, with nothing lost except 2d6 SAN.

Worried about email hijacking/spam bounces in your domain email?

A couple of Munuvians have been panicked by what appears to be a hijacking of their Mu.nu email, most recently GM Roper in the previous post.

Because this has come up a couple of times (Mad Mikey had the same concern back in January) I've put together a post titled Do bounced spam messages in your domain email mean you've been hacked? explaining the problem and giving step-by-step instructions for how to fix it.

Essentially, what folks are seeing is the result of a significant flaw in the email protocol which allows anyone to send an email which pretends to be from somebody else.

So a spammer simply finds a live domain - yours, in this case - and makes up any number of fake addresses at that domain. He then sends massive numbers of spam messages with all those fake mu.nu addresses as the spoofed 'from:' address. When those messages go to undeliverable addresses, as most inevitably do, the bounce message comes back to you because the spammer made it look like you sent them originally, even though you didn't.

Check out the post for 'the rest of the story'.

How on earth?

I opened my horde mail box this PM (something which I haven't done for a while) and found over 2200 emails, the vast majority of which are from Mailer Daemon or similar programs returning an email that I didn't send. They have email senders addy like "mibgmroperneg@gmroper.com' and gmroper@akane.mu.nu etc. Has someone hijacked Horde? What can I do now or in the future?

Need nameservers to Set-up Domain

Hi!

I just bought a new domain and I need to set it up. I know the biggest part is getting Munus nameservers. I believe they were ns.mu.nu and ns1.mu.nu but my memory is fuzzy. Second, I want this to point to a subdomain but I can't remember where that goes. Would it be done in the addon domain section of Cpanel?

Thanks,
Nick

Munuvians Unite!: Help Me Win a Camera

I am a finalists in an online prize contest for a camera at WhoGets.com. The winner is determined by votes on who deserves to get it most. My reason is:

"This would be a great gift for my wife for our wedding anniversary on July 4th. Being a college student it is hard to keep the bills paid let along buy nice gifts. We have no camera now and have 2 nephews and a niece plus all sorts of family events that she would love to keep memories of."

So if you can find the time to stop by and help me out it would much appreciated. My id is nickq112 there.

Here is the link:

http://whogets.com/contest.php?id=46

Registration is required but I suggest the site. I have a friend who won a DVD from them so they are legit.

My URL has been banned in the USA

It seems I've not only been banned in China, I've also been banned here in the good ol' USA. Does anyone have any clues as to why or how? Believe me, the subject matter on my blog is far from controversial. That is, unless someone took offense to the country music I posted recently.

This is the message I get whenever I try to post a comment in mu.nu.

Placing the digg it widget

I have been able to place the digg widget so that it appears at the bottom of the post in the main blog. but, when I send someone the specific URL to go to, such as my most recent: http://gmroper.mu.nu/archives/225555.php when you go to the bottom of the post there is no digg widget. Where do I place the code so that it appears on the "specific" url and not only on the main blog... anyone know?

All help greatly appreciated.

Banned in Boston Munuvia

Well, someone has been adding words to the blacklist again, like "sex-toy" and "pornvideos" and that's just going to make commentors at Harvey's mad.... plus, it prevents the addition of URLS like "pornvideos.info"...

I would delete them myself, but I have never gotten the blacklist List to display past the "k"s before my browser locks up...

Pixy? Paul? A little help?

Love and kisses,

Susie

A commenter repeatedly got this message on my site.

Any clue what it means, what caused it, and what to do about it?
