Rotating Taglines

Is there any way to have the tagline/blog description be randomly selected from a pre-set list of variable phrases? I'd like to replace "Apathetic curmudgeonry from the Western District of the Commonwealth of Virginia" with something else, but the thing I have in mind would benefit from my aforementioned idea.

Stage 3

The next stage of the Minx beta, once I get a few more bugs knocked over the head and a few missing features in place, is an invitation beta for

Every blogger will get a bunch of beta keys (five or ten to start with) that they can hand out to your readers. The keys are just alphanumeric codes, like A5EC78F, that you can email out to people.

The key lets the user sign up for a lifetime free "Express" account at, which would normally cost $5 per month ($50 per year). That gives you 1GB of disk space and 10GB of bandwidth, which is enough for a smallish blog. (Typepad give 100MB of space and 2GB of bandwidth for that price, by comparison.)

Comment here or email me at andrew -at- pixymisa -dot- net if you're interested, and let me know how many keys you'd like. I'm hoping to start sending the keys out this Sunday or Monday.

Oh, and please don't post the keys on your blog. Each key is good for one person only, so you'll need to email or IM them. Feel free to run competitions or whatever you like. If you run out of keys, I'll be handing out more until I either run out (can only give away so many free acounts) or we hit the end of the beta period.

Minx BBCode

Minx supports BBCode, which can make some formatting tasks easier, and lets commenters do more without letting them screw up your blog entirely.

I've posted a list of supported BBCode tags. You can try them out in the comments. Yes, you can post pictures and Youtube videos in comments. Yes, this will have restrictions before we get out of beta. (You'll be able to turn it on or off for your blog, or enable it only for friends, and so on.)

You too can be a beta tester by following these three easy steps:

1. Go to

2. Log in with your normal MT username and password.

3. Try not to break too much stuff before I get back from lunch.

Update: If you have login problems, email me at andrew -at- pixymisa -dot- net with your username and any error message you get. There may be problems with some of the accounts that I copied from MT - duplicate entries and such - and I can get those fixed for you.

If, say, one would like the category(ies) of each post to appear under the credits/comments/trackback line for each post and a listing of all the categories to show up in the sidebar of a blog to appear, would it be a difficult thing to make happen?

Is there anyone out there would could assist with such a project?

Or even better, magically make it happen as I am tragically inept when it comes to all things technical? Typing this post is about as good as it gets.

Eternal greatfulness and one genie wish* granted in return for your help!

Jam Tomorrow

Sorry kids, your beta test got bumped to tomorrow so that I could get the comment moderation screen working right. The first beta release listed comments, but didn't actually let you do anything to them.

New screen lets you mark comments as spam, hide them, and delete them. Seems to work too.

Working on setting up the munu Minx beta now. Oh, yeah - I have to set up the smiley server. That first, then the beta. Right.

Update: smilies server is up! Onwards to the beta!

Oh Crap

New entries aren't showing up on the main page of both hands, only on my archives. I was fiddling around with the entrails of my blog and f'ed up the whole thing.

When performing some minor surgery on the stylesheet maybe I left a sponge or scissors or something in there when I sewed everything up?

Can someone who knows what the hell they're doing please assist?

Eternal greatfulness in return.

***False Alarm***Apparently they were just greatly delayed??

Never mind! All is well!

Minx Beta Test

It's here! :D

The first bunch of beta testers for the site have been given their beta keys.

For the side, I'm going to do it slightly differently:

Every blogger, including co-bloggers, will automatically get an account at Your username and password will be the same as they are in MT2.6. (For any MT3 users who don't have an MT2.6 login, I'll need to give you a beta key so you can create yourself an account.)

Your test site will be your username, minus any spaces or punctuation, So mine will be

You can play around there to your hearts content. With the beta, the beta accounts are permanent; with the beta, we will transfer off the beta database to a new database as people become ready to migrate.

The accounts should be ready today or tomorrow; I'll post an update when it's good to go.

Sorry about the comment outage, folks! I was concentrating on getting the new system set up and didn't drop by here during the weekend.

It should be working now.

If there are any more outages like this, feel free to contact me directly at andrew -at- pixymisa -dot- net.

Is it me (us) or have comments been down all day today? I constantly get the Fluffy the Spamhound warning when I try to access comments.

Ban this Mofo

From Trey Givens' Blog:

Ok. This comment spammer is REALLY bad. The name he used was "Best Regards" and the IP was With the same IP he posted 5 spammy comments to about a dozen different posts on my site. Do the math. I woke up to a TON of spam this morning.

Un-Banning a Word, Please?

Someone must have blacklisted "asshole", as it won't work in comments. Can we unblock it, please? I use the word, my readers use the word, and I'd like it to be accessible again.

Can You Hear Me Now?

I'm testing the production version of Minx over at my new blog. :)

Beta testing starts Tuesday for people who have already expressed an interest; I'll be adding more munuvians after the first group have had a chance to bang on it for a week, and then a week after that I'll start the open beta.

Do we have gd2 installed on our server? I need to know for a plugin I am installing. No idea if I can verify such things, or where.
