Had a huge wave of spam coming in just now, and I ended up changing the name of the spam... uh, comment script.
If you are on MT 2.6, it's now "blup.cgi".
If you are on MT 3.2, it's "blurp.cgi".
The next time you update your blog, your main page will pick this up, but the link will be wrong on older posts unless you rebuild them.
Update: To make it clearer, until you post a new entry or rebuild your blog, people won't be able to comment.
Daughter Mookie is now a sophomore in college and is taking a course about movies - editing, beginning directing, etc (I think that's what it's about). One of her assignments was to do a music video, and being who she is, a Zappa song seemed a natural.
My Video is on google videos! Woo. Let me know what you think about it.The people in it are my friends: Molly, Shannen, Diedre, Renee, and Shae.
Don't know what I did, but the password for Cpanel and Horde mail doesn't work now... suggestions?
change? gmroper@yahoo.com if you need an email addy
I am getting just LOADS of x-rated spam. Is there any way I can stem the flow long enough to clean it up?

HELP!! My site is down and I'm traveling. It's sayin' I'm out of bandwidth??? I'm sorta confused....
I just tried to upload a picture to Rocket Jones, and instead of showing me the HTML, I got "error 500 - bugger".
So I hand coded it, but get the "alt" description instead (which is nice, but not what I wanted).
A second attempt to upload the photo let me know that the picture already existed, but that I could overwrite it. So I did, but still no joy.
Anyone else have this issue before? How did you fix it? Thanks.
OK Pixy, I got the rejection message again. Here it is:
mkdir /home/demphist: Permission denied at lib/MT/FileMgr/Local.pm line 104
I'm not signing in under that name, and my permissions shouldn't be conditioned by that name, but there it is.
Update: Never mind. I'm an idiot. I was trying to post to Demosophia on blog3. Can't believe I did that.
I recently had a photo lifted from my site and avused by another blogger. Had an ugly fight to get it off the guy's site.
How do I protect such images from theft in the future? I want to prevent the whole "right-click"/copy thing fom working.
I've having a blogathon, but I don't seem to have the readership to spread the word all by my lonesome. Clickity Click. Please feel free to help me spread the word, cow puppies, and wish me luck! :)
Off on holiday tomorrow morning. Back sometime the following week.
Anyone who breaks the server while I'm away is in BIG trouble.
A few weeks ago, David (of Rishon-Rishon notoriety) and I were discussing via email the use of the "Joe@yourMuNublogdomain.Mu.Nu" email forwarding gizmo and we got on the subject of email icon generators (see: http://services.nexodyne.com/email/index.php)
Anyhow, I got to thinkin' tonight.... could someone with "mad computer programming skillz" or Photoshopping talent whip up a snazzy Mu.Nu email icon where Munuvians can just pop in their email prefix?
Just a thought.
Just went to my archives to find a particular post and noted that my August, September and October Archives are missing.... Too, my blog started showing up with all kinds of squiggles etc... I tried rebuilding as it seems that a prior post suggested taht, but no luck...
I can log in using the blog3 server, but when I attempted to post something on the Jawa Report I got a "demphist denied permission" or something like that. I figured maybe Rusty had fired me, but he'd tell me right? It may have something to do with the fact that whoever set up the account for me used several different and creative spellings of both "Demosophist" and "Demosophia" which may be screwing things up. Everything seems to work on the regular server, but not on blog3.
It was a quota problem.
The account that MT lives under was running out of disk space. So when you went to rebuild your blog, maybe it worked, maybe it didn't, maybe it half worked.
Bleh.
IF YOUR BLOG IS MISSING IN ACTION, LOG INTO MOVABLE TYPE, AND EDIT AND SAVE THE LATEST POST.That should fix everything, and now that I've found the underlying problem, it should stay fixed.
Then I thought, aha! This is why image thumbnails aren't working too.
But no. :(
Update: I ran through the list of blogs over yonder (hi everyone!), and rebuilt anyone who seemed to be in trouble, so you should all be good now. :)
Blather Review is a blank white page! HEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!!!
It was working this morning. That I know. Then I went in and tried to add a Paypal button and when I looked at the site it was gone. I removed the code that I entered but everything is still gone, so I don't think that I did anything to cause this.
Take a moment from the ups and downs of server migration and pay a visit to Michele at Letters From NYC.
Read about what she has done and what she is dealing with. Lend her your support.
We should all be proud and honored to have her as part of our little corner of the blogosphere.
I don't know if it was a specific problem that Pixy fixed and/or if it was a matter of simply moving to the new servers, but my blog e-mail is now working!!
W00t!!
Thanks Pixy!!
BTW Pixy.....what is your e-mail address? I should have it, but don't.
My blog has this meta:
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />
Generated by this:
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=<$MTPublishCharset$>" />
In other words: MTPublishCharset is iso-8859-1 instead of utf-8.
Is this right?
Okay, all requests from the last post have been applied. :)
We have 38 Trickle slots remaining, so get your orders in early for Christmas!
Hey, bandwidth hog here. I was uploading an image and it didn't 1) give me the option of creating just the html without creating a new post or - more importantly - 2) making a thumbnail of the image. Is MT screwed up or is this a new Moo Noo thing?
Since the switch to the new server, I noticed that on several blogs that have us listed (using Blogroll), there doesn't appear a "New" (or whatever word indicates we've updated our blog) anymore. We've long had a ping set up for Blogroll in our preferences; we even tried manually pinging our blog using Blogroll's manual ping form -- but it still wouldn't show that we updated our blog.
Any ideas?
Movable Type is acting strange and annoying. Not necessarily MT's fault though, given the weird setup we have.
Anyway, a bunch of blogs went blank. Rebuilding them was... iffy. I have no idea why that is; it was working; it should have worked.
I went and reset all the permissions on the MT2.6 blogs to something simpler, and rebuilt the ones that are listed below, and they all seem to be fine now. (Munuviana went blank somewhere along the way, so I rebuilt that too.)
If your blog has gone blank, either edit and save your most recent post, or go into Rebuild Site and choose Rebuild Indexes.
If that doesn't work, post here. I might need to upgrade my bug gun to a larger calibre.
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in /home/angrygwn/public_html/index.php on line 2722
What the...? Did I do something wrong? I just made two posts, very straightforward, and they did appear when I refreshed the site. Now this.
angrygwn.mu.nu
I just rebuilt my site and it disappeared from view in the browser. I can still log in to the editing and utilities for it, but the blog does not appear to be visible. It just displays a blank page.
I did not add any code to any templates, either. I just rebuilt after deleting one of those funky "A"s (and adding a "-") from my inline comments template.
Whatever happened?
UPDATE: Well, the blog is back online. How did I manage that? By unpublishing one of my published posts. The blog came back immediately following that. I republished that post and the blog stayed online.
A mystery.
Pixy,
Sacto Dan ask that I put up a help sign. When he logs into MT, he has Ellis Island and Munuviana but not his own blog. Can you take a look when you get a chance?
Thanks,
SR
I've re-enabled Trickle posting.
If you wanted to be added to the Trickle list, leave a comment here.
Try putting
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">just after the <head> in your templates, and see if that fixes things.
The only problem is this might fix your old posts and then break your new posts. But give it a try.
A couple days ago Jordana asked about Trickle. It hasn't been working on my blog since trackbacks stopped working. And I tested it today and it's still not working. Does it work for anyone else who's been using it, or is it just me?
We had some sort of code-page glitch while transferring the blog database across, and people who use Word or similar fancy-pants editors to create posts got bit.
I can fix it, but what would help is a list of what used to be, and what now is.
So for example, apostrophes got replaced by ’ and ó got replaced by ó.
Post your examples in the comments and I'll write a program to hunt them down and kill fix them all. :)
One thing I've noticed since the "switch" is that many letter characters have changed. For instance, apostrophes and characters with accents are now all buggy. Here's an example from an old archived post of ours :
Arthur Chrenkoff, whose "Good News from Iraq" was a fantastic alternative to what you usually would see in the mainstream media, is saying adiós to the blogosphere.
Check the highlighted underlined word. There are many of these throughout the blog now.
Also, the search function now brings up "Error 500: Bugger." FYI.
People trying to ping my posts with trackbacks from relevant posts of their own are getting "Error 500: Bugger". I assume this is at the server end and not my own...
I sure screwed something up. I'm stupid. When I try to post, I get this error.
mkdir /blog/NR: Permission denied at lib/MT/FileMgr/Local.pm line 104
Pixy, can you help?
All I want to say is, once again, thank you Pixy, from me and Merri.
Anyone else who wants to show their appreciation of teh d00d leave a comment.
Thank you so much for your hard work.
When you get rich off of Minx, make sure you jet in to meet us sometime, so I can buy you a Foster's. Yeah, I know, Foster's is really Australian for "Diarrhea we convinced Americans to drink" but it's the best we got here.
Kidding aside, we really do mean this. You are the best.
I don't know if this has happened to anyone else... and it's certainly not earthshakingly bad or in need of instant fix, but if you could figure out what's going on eventually and let me know Pixy, that would be cool.
Several places on my blog posts - like the brackets around my category and next to the "show comments" extension, have an A with a thing over it rather than the "greater than" "less than" signs. I did a rebuild of indexes, but that didn't change anything, so I assume the problem lies elsewhere. If I paid some attention to blog software, I'd probably be able to figure it out - but I don't, so I can't.
When you have a spare moment or two, give it a look.
Thanks much. BTW - smooth move as far as I'm concerned.
I think everything's working - except for my blog, which has the hiccups.
If anything isn't working, post or comment here, or email me at andrew -at- pixymisa -dot- net, and I'll get it fixed.
The one problem you might have is with DNS, which should have updated by now, but can take a little while. But post/comment/email anyway, and I'll let you know if it's a real problem or if you just need to sleep in a couple more hours. :)
Oh yes: If you have a Wordpress blog and suddenly all your posts since June have disappeared, don't panic! It just means I've restored the wrong database. All the Wordpress blogs have their own databases, and following all the moving around we did during the DDoS attacks, we ended up with two copies of each. So depending on which server you started out on, and which server you ended up on, I might not have loaded the right database for you. But I do have copies of everything, so all it means is that I have to grab the other copy and load it up (which takes all of 30 seconds).
Okay, the reason for the spam is the same as the reason that comments weren't working: The blacklist got corrupted. Why people could still spam when I couldn't comment at all, I don't know.
I've realoaded the blacklist now (I quickly trimmed 4000 unnecessary entries first), so we should be back in business.
Anyone else getting hammered with spam since tonight's move?????
What's worse is they don't have the de-spamming tagline on them.
I'm getting about one a minute, so I should have about 500 by morning when I get up. Oh joy, something to look forward to!
If you can see this post, you are in the right place.
You should be able to post now your own blogs now - but you have to go to the right copy of MT. blog.mu.nu for most mt blogs; blog2.mu.nu for Ace of Spades only, blog3.mu.nu for The Jawa Report only.
That will probably persist until we move to Minx.
There is something strange going on with comments, though. I'm working on that now.
Trickle used to work wonderfully for me, but has long since seemed to have stopped and I keep forgetting to ask -- is it still working for anyone? Is it still an option? As I reach popping status on Baby #4, I would really like to be able to set up some posts to keep things alive on my blog while I'm not there/not sleeping/not thinking/etc.
The move to the Land of Happy Servers is on this Sunday, October 8th, starting 2AM GMT. There will be some wobblage for a few hours while I reload the databases and redirect all the DNS, so be prepared to do some normal life type stuff instead of wasting your weekend blogging. :)
Update: Test test....
UM, me again! Is anyone else's e-mail notification not working? I went back into the template and re-entered the info and it still is down. Any ideas??
Hi everyone.
Mail coming out of Yuri (where most of the blogs sort of live) is delayed at the moment. I got a complaint about spam originating from the server, so I have the mail queueing up until I can check it. I'll release the buildup periodically.
If any of you have installed anything new in the last week or two, let me know. There are a number of scripts out there that have loopholes that spammers can sneak through - either by accident or by design.
Or it might be something old with a new-found bug, so I'm having a little bug-hunt as well.
Hey Pixy. I messed something up. I had that problem yesterday with my archives, and now when I try to post anything I get this message.
Building entry 'Why I hope the Republicans Lose this Falll' failed: Build error in template 'Date-Based Archive': Error intag: You used an without a date context set up.
Can you help me?
I've been having a problem posting or amending entries. I keep getting this:
An error occurred:
Renaming tempfile '/home/golddoor/www/index.php.new' failed: Renaming '/home/golddoor/www/index.php.new' to '/home/golddoor/www/index.php' failed: No such file or directory
Anyone klnow why or how to fix this???
Thanks in advance!
Okay, I've tried several times and now have my entry saved as a draft. But I can't post to my blog. It twiddles about for a while, thinks a bit and then tells me that the renaming of temp files and the renaming of new files to my home directory simply can not be done because the directory doesn't exist. Help please. :-)
If you need the entire error message I can certainly try a repost and get it to you. Thanks much.
This guy keeps e-mailing me about a picture I put of him on my blog. He is really pissed and wants the offending entry removed. I tried to delete it, but it keeps showing up. Please help me cleane it entirely.
